The staff were amazing and so helpful. But the food unfortunately was a let down. I do have intolerances however when compared to other establishments that are of the same nature and "rating" the fact everything was clearly pre packaged and pre made so little fresh food, there was not much on the menu. The waiter was really helpful but clearly the food just did not have the same effect, as it was the most blandest, poorest display I have ever experienced from a restaurant like this and the price for this "meal" what I had was just ridiculous.
The paragon group restaurants seem to want to offer a beautiful, up market experience but this was not the case.
Other restaurants really have fresh, amazing tasting food. It needs to adapt with the every changing requirements of every changing modern eating.

We have visited many of the Paragon group restaurants before and always been happy but yesterday we ordered off the 2 courses for £22 lunch menu and we're very disappointed. The starters were ok although limited in choice but it was the mains that really let the meal down. I had the steak which was about 5mm thick and cut into slices to make it look more. Despite ordering it pink it came well done. The accompanying salad was all lettuce leaves and half a cherry tomato. My husband ordered the chicken which was about 3mm thick and about 4cm long by 3cm. Very meagre considering the price. It was also very over cooked and dry. To be fair the waitress did come and check if everything was alright but as we were dining with friends we didn't want to send our food back and have them eating on their own. This is definitely not the standard that we are used to.

Been here a few times now, and it’s never disappointed.
The ambience in the place has a real classy, rose vibe to it. The food it’s honestly faultless! Tried a few dish and they are always Incredibly tasty and the portion sizes are excellent value for money! Not your typical pub food either, some imagination and thought has gone into the menu! And they always presented so well.
We have tired the beef brisket croquettes with the Stilton, I could have easily eaten a bowl of them! The bacon chop was so full of flavour and the way they got the fat so crispy!
Also the Chicken pie is was incredible also! Homemade and it so well filled!! You would never leave this place feeling hungry! Even down to the fine details of the butter that comes with the breads not you’re standard butter and it goes so well with the breads!

First time here greeted well pre booked early doors. Conservatory cold why we could have sat anywhere where it was warm. Ordered food starters very very basic but we were on 2 courses for £22 plates taken away then a wait but the steak skewers were good but chips crap and way roo much salad leaves and I like salad. Red wine good £6.50 for sorbet who's kidding who them slapped on a surcharge. £88 don't mind paying but your food standards well what can I say the meal was not worth what we paid so won't return. Also food went very cold quickly. You are paying for the surroundings not the quality of food.

Truly dreadful ! Took our dad for a lunch treat and treat it was not! The staff at the bar were surly and rude, the menu was limited apparently no light bites over Christmas - we struggled to find anything but decided on starters and a main for dad - we waited 40 mins for food and when it came oh my word it was dreadful, dry and looked reheated - it was inedible, dad mash was watery, the fish grey and everything tepid
We advised the waitress who snatched the offending plates away as quick as lightening - we were offered to choose something else but to be honest we struggled first time round and another 40 min wait wasn’t something we had factored into our day
We left after eating 2 strips of very hard crispy beef and a poor main for dad - who was hungry - no apologies and an extortionate bill - dreadful
To cap it all we were shoved on a table where high chairs were passed over our heads and prams were shoe horned in - people could get past to get to the corridor and it was like a children’s tea party!

Booked a table for 6pm for a group of 24, upon arrival we were told the table wasn’t yet ready after waiting for 50 minutes in the bar are (obviously a lot of people in a very small area with small children didn’t work well) we were then eventually sat down and received the main course (After a pre-order of a limited menu!) about 8pm! Service was very slow, and upon checking the bill after leaving and realising there was a 7.5% service charge we regret not checking this sooner and deducting the service charge as service was diabolical and the food wasn’t great! Will not be returning!!

We eat at Paragon restaurants regularly and as The Boar’s Head is one of the nearest ones, we eat here more often. We have been when it’s been very busy numerous times - Mother’s Day, Christmas etc and never had an issue. We ate her on Christmas Eve and it was dreadful. An hour to get our starters and the server came to apologise and confirm they would be taken off the bill. If only this was the only issue. Out of 6 dishes, only one (soup) was up to standard. Our sharing starter was horrible, cold chicken, chewy beef, the baba ganoush has a skin on! The mains were no better, even the chips and fries had clearly been reheated and were dry. My husband’s bacon chop was so salty it was inedible, my pork and potato were dry and hard, my son’s vegan burger was dry. We didn’t bother with dessert as we had been sat there for over 2 hours. The server asked us if everything was ok as we’d left so much food so we were honest. They clearly knew the bacon chops were inedible as she told us it was a supplier issue, why keep serving them! She offered to do more about the bill but the manager said no, they could only remove the service charge and penalise the waitress! Tbh, the manager should have come to our table. We had not complained. We didn’t ask for money off the bill and they made us feel like we were complaining about nothing.
Things go wrong, but this was dealt with so badly and therefore we will not be back.

Visited with my wife for an anniversary treat .I ordered off the 2 for £22 menu . The starter came drowned in garlic butter which isn’t mentioned on the menu . Tbf they changed it . The steak came and was cut into small pieces like a child’s meal and was tough . The portion was small as well . My wife’s meal off the main meal was nice , but I left hungry and disappointed as I’d spent a lot for what we got . My wife’s brownie was dry as if it had been microwaved . We’ve had some good meals in the past but this wasn’t good . Service was fine . I did go and see the manager and pass on my comments but didn’t really feel she fully understood my disappointment as this was supposed to be a rare treat . Not sure we’d go back

We had wanted to visit the Boars Head because of all of the good comments we had heard from friends. We had booked for 4 people, we waited 10 minutes when we arrived and eventually we were asked ‘can I help?’ Taken to our table waited half an hour to order a drink at the same time ordered food ,drinks came and it was an hour before food arrived . When the wine arrived the glass it was in was dirty! Our ‘warm bread selection’ looked like large croutons fried ,probably stale bread not fresh, served with a balsamic butter . The food was greasy . We didn't have desserts . The waitress tried very hard to look after everyone she was the only good thing about the whole experience . (Didn’t get her name a young, slim lady very hard working ) they were very busy and short staffed, it would help if the customer could be advised of this and we would all be able to be more understanding. Management is clearly not good. We will not be going again. I have never written a negative restaurant review before, but really felt the necessity on this occasion.

On arrival we went to the desk and a gentleman said he would be with us in a moment then went onto take table orders and clear plates whilst waitress after waitress walked past us. We were shown to our table, the seats our comfortable and the restaurant is decorated nicely and our drinks orders were taken. They appear to be very pro active against allergies which was good to see. We ordered the soups to start which was broccoli and blue cheese I asked the waiter how strong the blue cheese would be but he didn't know. I think knowledge of the food is a basic must for waiting staff. The soup was served hot but was only about 1/3 filled which seemed a little on the mean side but was very nice and at the price you cannot quibble. We had the set menu which was 2 courses for 21.00 or three courses for 25.00 a service charge of 7.5% is also added to the bill. We also ordered two Sunday roasts a beef dinner and a duo of beef and ham and a side order of smoked apple wood cauliflower cheese.
The roasts were plentiful and everything tasted great but it was only luke warm also the cauliflower cheese wasn't brought out even though the waiter acknowledged this when bringing the roasts so we expected it to follow shortly after we had eaten half the roast we tried to get a waiters attention to chase up the cauliflower cheese there was no apology and we ordered extra gravy in the hope of warming our food up which was now cold. The cauliflower cheese was nice and it was hot but the gravy was cold. I complained to a waiter who again didn't apologise but said he would pass it onto the chef. As this was our first time here we thought there must have been a reason for the food not being warm never mind being hot, and would have returned again to give them another chance but looking at the negative reviews I can see a consitancy in most of the negative reviews mention cold food so this is a clear problem that needs to be sorted otherwise it will be detrimental to the business. This has already put us off from returning which is such a shame given that the quality of food was very good. We ordered the sticky toffee pudding and the fruit crumble and both were very tasty. We had also ordered malbec with the food and this was very good too. Price wise we think this restaurant is very good value but they must address the temperature of the food as something is failing. I only wish now that we rejected the food and asked for it to be re-heated or exchanged. Also when customers complain about missing items or cold food the waiting staff should not just alert the chef but also apologise and alert the manager. We were offered no discount but really an apology would have been nice. Its such a shame that issues like this are not sorted when a restaurant first begins to notice a trend in the negative reviews it gets and not just get complacement in what is already a very competitive market with plenty of choice for customers to visit their competitors instead. I've tried to be very constructive in this review with the hope they sort these issues out and watch their negative reviews decline.

Very disappointing lunch. Not only was there a massive wait but when the food arrived a number of the dishes were overcooked and unpleasant. We were unable to finish the meal. We were offered the option to order other dishes but this would only have lead to further waits. We will not return.

Have been here twice before and loved it. However, when i returned tonight for a date night and it was very poor all round. Food arrived before drinks. Ordered a bottle of wine, it came warm. The bottle was left unopened with us and no glasses. Bottle finally opened but still no glasses. Eventually, glasses arrived.
We both ordered fish and chips, batter was undercooked and stodgy, fish was like warm, chips were anaemic and pea purè stone cold.
Was not asked how our meal was until it was late into us eating and we knew if we complained we would be a long wait until a fresh one so just eat what we could.
Very disappointed as we loved it here previously. Both times eating previously was mid week, tonight was a Friday night so maybe poor service due to it being busy at the weekend? Big shame.

Food was excellent and the Sunday set meal very reasonable for the quality .. staff were attentive and as a party of 11 we felt looked after and nothing was too much trouble.
I would like to mention Lydia who was brilliant. From talking to the kids 6-15 to my dad (his 75 birthday ) making sure we had everything and keeping an eye on us and checking in she was a totally credit to the restaurant.
I had the celeriac and apple soup that was so tasty and a roast beef dinner .. both gluten free and I didn’t feel left out or I had been left short.
I would recommend this to anyone

Always delivers. We love this place, the food is fresh and tasty. With the difficulties for everyone with costs over the last couple of years the prices have been raised and portions less however we totally get it and the flavour still remains amazing. This time we had the thai skewers a firm favourite for my husband and I opted for the skewers also but as a diabetic i can't have the rice, so gave my portion to hubby whilst having the tandoori roasted veg as a side. As a paragon it does them proud, just wish the consistency went to the other pubs as they do not deliver the same quality.

Went for Christmas dinner today at £99 per head. The soup was barely warm, brought the starters at the same time. Roast potatoes so hard that I found them difficult to cut. Plenty of turkey which was good. Hardly any custard on the Christmas pudding and to top it all the coffee was almost cold. My friend actually paid the £16 service charge and gave a £12 tip which I did not agree with. Went in the summer time and they had run out of cheese and biscuits and the coffee machine was out of order. Thought that I would give it another try but won’t be going again.
