We stayed in the Lake District at the end of September and stayed in St Bees - there generally isn’t a lot around St Bees and our closest shops and restaurants were a short drive into Whitehaven.
Having visited The Vagabond a couple of times...during our stay, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. The price is fantastic, both times my partner had pizza and loved it - I had pizza the first time and pasta the next - great quality food both times.
We found there wasn’t a lot open during our stay, particularly in the way of restaurants. The Vagabond is tucked away slightly but I’d much rather come here than scoff down a Wetherspoons(!)More
Always dine here when staying at Howgate Premier Inn & never disappointed !
Great reasonably priced home prepared food served by very pleasant hardworking staff.
My wifes vegetarian pasta meal & my favourite the goulash were delicious !
Sadly I have one criticism which is...the constant clomping up & down the timber staircase by the energetic staff.....please improve/soften the staircase & soft soled footwear would greatly help !More
Drove into Whitehaven from St Bees for dinner. Good variety on menu but some a bit pricey for what they are. £6.95 for two spring rolls. Staff running about but not doing a lot. Waited about 40 minutes for our food. Food was ok.
Great meal and service for Large family gathering for Sunday lunch over the bank holiday . Staff really put themselves out to ensure we all had drinks and meals that came to order well cooked and hot. Great value for money and fantastic food. Would...fully recommend and thank you for supporting the family gathering so well.More
Nice place, near the harbour. Decent atmosphere and food was honestly very good. But the service was a bit crap and it wasn’t even busy. Took at least ten minutes to get menus, then the same wait again for drinks. My food came out ten...minutes after everyone else’s which was a bit annoying. Waitress spent most of the time chatting to her friends at one of the tables. Food was good though, so would probably go again and hope it was a one off.More
We had an impromptu visit to The Vagabond as a family and had heard the Sunday roast dinners were good. Well - turns out that was a bit of an understatement. I've been in here several times in the past purely for drinks as it's...real ale offering is fantastic. I left feeling gutted that was the first time I'd eaten!! We all ordered lamb and I was highly impressed to see two separate plates dished up before the mains - cauliflower cheese and a selection of (clearly fresh) veg. Followed by a huge plate of lamb and potatoes. The quality matched the quantity - delicious. £13 absolutely worth it as it was first rate.
Will be back to try the extensive pizza list - lamb kleftico pizza? Nom,nom,nom.....More
We visited The Vagabond for dinner last night on a spontaneous date night. The food was superb and the staff were lovely and attentive. My spinach, pancetta and Stilton chicken roulade was gorgeous as was my partner's goulash. After deep fried trio of cheese and...garlic mushrooms for starters all washed down with a bottle of Merlot, we could hardly move but it was so worth it and we will definitely return. Highly recommended.More
