Having just finished a climb of Scarfell Pike we were keen to find a nice place to relax and have a meal, before heading back to our holiday home; the Royal Yew ticked all the right boxes.... the staff were perfect, very friendly, informative and...inviting, (the manager even had the time for a mini tour of the pub, showing us the historic features and architecture), the beer was excellent and I opted for a local brew and the food was just delightful, especially the home made steak pie....highly recommended. we arrived around 5.45 - 6.15pm and the place was nicely busy and kept being so, we hadn't booked, but room was made for us - I think it would be better to book if you wanted to guarantee a table. I highly recommend this place for drinks and or a mealMore

Really enjoyed our family dinner meal out. Good value and tasty, high quality food. Enjoyed the roast dinners and bbq ribs meal and deserts/ice creams. Attentive and friendly service. Would highly recommend.

Excellent value for money, very generous portions. Good quality pub grub and beer. 13 of us booked on 3 separate tables (due to keeping up social distancing) and nobody had all 3 courses, wear elasticated trousers if you do!!! I loved it.

We found this pub after searching best places to eat near our premier inn @ cockermouth, and we weren’t disappointed. The pub itself is lovely, and has a lovely feel about it. The staff are all friendly and welcoming, and the food is outstanding.

Staying in the local area, my wife and I visited for an evening meal last Wednesday. Pub was quite quiet and we had the back dining area to ourselves which, in the current climate, we were pleased about. Me- cheesy garlic bread sharer for starter,...steak pie main course, and creme brûlée dessert. My wife- shared starter, lasagna, ice cream. With 3 large wines and two pints this came to £75. Portions were very generous and the food was above average pub fare (i.e. not spectacular, but a high standard with absolutely nothing to complain about.) Tip- pub closes at 10pm (at least it did on this particular Wednesday, perhaps not weekends) so don’t order a large wine at 9:50pm as my wife did. They kindly put it in a box to take home. Very enjoyable and recommended.More

We booked a table for an evening meal last week. We have been before a few times, I had the ribs, and my wife had the fillet stak, which was large, and I had the ribs which were MASSIVE....Infact its the first time i have...never eaten a rack of ribs, took some home. The meals were excellent, and love the chips here. Lovely friendly service by the staff,More

Lovely food and friendly service. Fantastic luck stumbling upon this pub throughly enjoyed our starters, mains and dessert. They brought a booster seat for our 14 month old and were dog friendly. All staff wore face coverings and tables were suitably distanced. Very reasonably priced...too. We hope to return again the next time we are in the area.More

Busy pub, lots of locals and visitors. Has a good atmosphere. Portions are big but very good. The prawn starter was lovely and the burgers huge, but very well done. The cheesecake portion was huge but wonderful and every bit was eaten. Service was excellent....Recommended if you are in the area.More

Yes dogs allowed in all areas. We sat and had a meal while our dog sat by the side of the table - the waitress even asked if he wanted a bowl of water. After the meal we were told that if we wanted to go into the bar the dog... More
