Now that the Hope and Anchor is closed, we are looking for somewhere near to Wirksworth that does a decent Sunday Lunch. We have been spoiled here at the Hope and Anchor with excellently cooked and excellent value sunday luch. No-one else seems to be able to cook or even source vegetables and in some cases meat too. I dont... More

What a complete and utter dump. I can not begin to describe what a dirty and un kept place this is. We will rather go thirsty than drink ( or God forbid eat) at the Hope and Anchor. Please, do not visit, stay away, you have been warned. Spend you're hard earnt money else where.

A good, honest, tasty Sunday Lunch in a real local - that was our experience of the Hope and Anchor in Wirksworth, itself a good, honest Peak District town with oodles of history. A bonus was the modest price of the meal, and friendly service. There are other places to eat in the town, for a range of tastes and... More

Took a bunch of friends in who were visiting, the beer was off and when i pointed this out in a polite manner i was thrown out! I'm also not sure about the licence they have but people can often be seen in their beer garden seveal hours after closing, smoking and shouting etc. In my opinion go to the... More

This could be a great pub, just off the market place right in the centre of the village, but........ Firstly the positives. The young lad behind the bar was friendly and clearly had a good knowledge of the beers on offer. The beer was actually quite good. The fabric of the pub however is terrible. Seating dirty and ripped in... More

This place has the best location in the whole town being right on the market square but it hasn't seen a lick of paint or an upholsterers staple gun in decades. Smoke stained walls & ceiling are matched by filthy ripped seating & grubby furnishings. The only thing scruffier than the decor was the barman! It's not even cheaper than... More

Visited on Saturday night and the pub was fairly quiet. However this was okay for us. The bar maid was attentive and friendly. I would return here for a quiet drink before moving on somewhere else later in the evening.

The atmosphere in here was warm and welcoming although the décor was a little dated and could have done with a lick of paint. The guy behind the bar was very helpful and pleasant. Would go back for a drink.

Perfect place for a nightcap away from noisier venues in this distinctive little Derbyshire town. Good selection of malt whiskies.
