The only thing this establishment lacks is consistency.... one week the food is excellent, another week it's poor. Why???? Is it the chef ??? I don't know??? This week the patè was a very skimpy portion ... some weeks it's treble what we were served today, a very thin slither, poor value for money. The curry was supposed to be... More

Called today for Lunch and had a pint of Theakston's Black Bull Bitter and the Steak Pie with homemade chips and veg. Was lovely and tasty.. had a wait as they were busy with walkers meals but worth the wait. Very pleasant staff and welcoming. A must to call and see again Cheers

We visited the George last week , although fairly busy the lady behind the bar welcomed us in and found us a table in the back room. The beer was great but found the food to be ok but not the best , the burger was reasonably priced and advertised as home made but would have to say that I... More

At very short notice they took a booking for 25 kids and adults, so well done them. The portions are huge. I had the mixed grill, it's impossible to eat just enormous. Everyone else's portions were huge too including the children's portions. And all good quality. The pub looks like it's a local's haunt, the staff were welcoming and pleasant.... More

Stayed again in Youlgrave over new year & had a great time as usual. Went out walking new year's day & ended up in the George. We only came in for a drink but were tempted by all of the food coming out & the very cozy atmosphere. So we caved in & had stilton chicken & chips & two... More

We stopped by here after viewing the rest of the village, inside is dated, a little like being in someone's living room. We were seated in the back room, the lady behind the bar was very attentive, the food was fairly standard, although my chicken burger came with a dry bread bun and a few salad leaves on the side.... I have visited and eaten lunch at the George Hotel in Youlgrave twice during the last week. This is NOT your posh gastropub, thank heavens, but an honest village local that also happens to serve very good food. Do NOT expect to have your food served on a roof slate. Do NOT expect to be served a 'jus' with your... More

Came here with my husband as we're staying down the road. Yes, it's dated. Yes, it feels like a trip back in time. But it's clean, friendly and the food is how proper pub grub used to be. It's keenly priced and the portions are man sized. More than enough to fill you up. We had the two course Christmas... More
