We do not eat out very often, and this is one of the very few restaurants we eat at. A family taverna run by the same people for 30 years. We always make an effort to eat there when they open, which was very late...this year 10th July. The food was, as usual excellent , with the same kitchen staff working there for years, so the quality remains constant. I had the Stiffado, with fall apart beef chunks cooked in a refined tomato and wine sauce, and my husband had the chicken souvlaki, which he says is always better than anywhere else.
The food, the sea front location, and the waiting staff Nikos and Michele always make a meal out feel special.More
We stayed at a hotel close by for 3 nights and went to eat here twice during our stay. The service, hospitality, and food are excellent. I highly recommend going here to eat and enjoy the view as well. This is what I think of...when I think of a nice, family-oriented Greek restaurant.More
We went to this spotless restaurant on a number of occasions for lunch to try one or two of there set menus, Greek salad, any pizza and dessert was 13 euros and enough for 2 people. The food was very tasty, also ros'e wine was...nice and the moussaka set menu and prawn omelette was tasty too. The staff were very friendly and efficient. I would recommend.More
We found this wonderful taverna on our first night and are so glad we did! Nico and Michelle are so helpful and really made our stay in Hersonissos. We had a drink here most days before going out and ate 3 times in our holiday....The food was beautiful (and great recommendations by staff). Mixed grill, fried squid, sardines, tzatziki, stuffed vine leaves, moussaka, meatballs, pork chop etc. The 4 of us ate all this and more and loved it all, traditional and very fresh. Always a smile and friendly banter for us .... by the end of our holiday we felt like we were leaving old friends. Fantastic!More
Very bad service, incredibly rude attitude from the waiter.
You know how they talk about Greek hospitality: yes, in every restaurant we went to, EXCEPT for Argo. It was in the top worst where I traveled and lived around the world.
The waiter came to...our table a few times not to bring anything, just to shout at us for no reason (wtf?).
At one point we kindly asked him if we could take the food to go because we were feeling terribly unwelcomed (we also had our young daughter with us, and he told me it was not nice of me to stand up with her to rock her in my arms as we waited for the food... again wtf...). He said we could take it away, but then the food came to our table on plates, and I quote (approximately) one of the things he yelled:
"There is NOTHING I can do! There is nothing I can do! I am not fast food restaurant!!! Maybe in Romania you can take things to go [without having announced your intention from the very beginning], not here!!!"
(Uhm, yeah actually we could take stuff to go in all the other restaurants where we went to in Crete, and no I don't mean McDonald's either.)
Was it because we come from Romania? I don't know. If that is the case, maybe they should just hang a sign to say "Romanians not welcome" - though I have a lot of non-Romanian friends who would have definitely made a huge scandal for being treated this poorly.
If you've watched Seinfeld, this man reminded me of the soup guy.
Bottom line is: when you just randomly start shouting things at customers, maybe waitering is just not the right career for you. Try maybe scuba diving, or even marine biology: the fish won't talk back to you. They won't stand up. And they certainly won't dare to ask for food to go.More
