Really wanted to enjoy this evening - had heard great things about “Monday night is Greek night” in the Old Town! Booked a week in advance - a little alarmed when we rang the day before to confirm arrival time - was told they didn’t...have any record of our 9 party booking - they would fit us in on two tables close by. When we arrived we were surprised by a long table already laid out - but were told this was not for us. A rather overbearing older waiter told us he made it clear we would be on separate tables - essentially at the edge of the restaurant- there seemed no reason why the tables couldn’t be joined - we didn’t make a fuss but the mood was made more somber by the waiters continued reiteration of what we “had been told”. Our friends on a table which could not see the festivities, we meanwhile sat by the edge of the road. We had been informed the road was closed for the festivities - if it did close it was quite late into the evening- before which we sat by whilst taxis and other vehicles stopped and waited to navigate the narrow road, pumping exhausts- not necessarily the restaurants fault but something to be aware of. Service was slow but obviously a busy night - drinks order taken and then our food - we chose starters, other table did not. We had one in our party who was a fussy eater - asked if meatballs came with pasta was told actually not meatballs but beef in tomato- but can we have with pasta?- no - no pasta- older waiter then says “ Let me tell you - if I say it’s good it’s good!” Rest of order taken and he leaves - diner on another table spotted eating Spaghetti! Service still slow our friends on other table were halfway through mains before our starter arrived. Two of our party ordered bread as their starter with Olive oil - this arrived as two seeded rolls in a basket with no plates and the oil - elder waiter makes a point of “this is our own “virgin” Olive oil” to the two young females. Before mains arrive we chase for additional drinks - one of the party has to make do with existing glass other gets a 500ml water bottle with no glass. Eventually our friends decide to cut their losses and get the bill - asked if food was good said it was Ok but not the best - waiter angry at being told they were disappointed- “we have regular customers everyday”. We ask for our bill also - twice - he is obviously busy standing at the periphery watching the festivities. Was a week in Crete at this point - by far the worst experience- many restaurants with better food and more respect for their guests. I appreciate this is a traditional evening at a traditional restaurant- but needs to move with the times and respect its guests who aren’t just a number!More

Perfectly placed at the top end of the square. Lovely little Taverna which offers a restricted menu on a Monday evening for the Greek Night. You MUST BOOK in advance for anywhere in Old Hersonissos as it is so busy. Enjoyed our meals but the...drinks were not chilled which was disappointing. Considering how busy the whole place is the service was also good. Great view of all going on in the square.More

We had been on the hop on hop off happy train and decided to get off in the old town quite small but beautiful, we stopped at Margo taverna for a drink but when we saw the food we decided we would have a walk...around and come back for the food. Alex served us so welcoming friendly and was great chatting with him while we waited a real asset to this beautiful taverna, the food came out and it was absolutely delicious we had kebab skewers with chips and salad the best I have ever tasted highly recommended. A must if in the old town would love to go back. Better than 5*More

Great place for a relaxing lunch in a pretty village. We had the meze for two and a carafe of rose which were both excellent. Lovely food and very attentive service from Carmen and Nico. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.
