Recommend for a quiet and cozy evening. However, avoid the outside stairs if there are many noisy people.

We are n an island that has 2,600 hundred people and then THIS restaurant! It’s all small plates so you get to try many things. The service is outstanding! Special shout out to Dasha, who was friendly, knowledgeable, and fun. The space has been recently...renovated, and was very nice and felt casual chic.More

We went to Nansen restaurant twice during our 4-day stay because the food was absolutely excellent. We had a warm and friendly welcome, an excellent service in a really quiet atmosphere. Our diner was exquisite, the fusion between Asian and Norwegian food was remarkable. A...must if you visit Svalbard.More

The food was good, lots of selection at breakfast but a very busy place and quite noisy. The bar cafe was delightful and had good food as well as a nice beer selection.

The welcome in English was warm, pleasant and… welcoming. It was still early and quiet on a Saturday evening; but there was a genuine smile; very pleasant words of welcome and a convivial introduction to a perfectly placed table overlooking the impressive picture windows framing...the sun drenched, snow-cover slopes of Adventoppen on the opposite side of the Adventfjorden. The ambiance was enhanced by the subtle use of muted colours, the very modern décor and the gentle lighting in the restaurant which allowed the 24 hours per day of Artic sunshine to flood into the room. The presentation of the drinks list was a bit odd… hidden below the dessert menu so that we missed it…. but having ordered a glass of local beer…. nothing was too much trouble… our waitress simply took the care to go out to the hotel bar to collect one for us. A reasonable selection of wines was… clearly set out by the glass and by the bottle. It was so good to simply look at the menu and see that a glass or a bottle of wine would cost no more than in a London restaurant…. quite a pleasant surprise! The “Arctic-Asian Fusion” menu looked “interesting” and just a little intimidating but we were really looking forward to sampling the offering. The starter of “Carelian Caviar” was totally exquisite…. Not only is the caviar from the world’s most northern fishery, it’s probably the most ethical, most environmentally friendly caviar on earth… sheer decadence but still less expensive in Nansen than anything similar would have been from a stand in the departures of Heathrow Airport! We went for a mixture of the “fusion” cuisine… The Cod, shitake, onion, potato puree with soy glaze… sounded good, looked good and tasted good… a really accomplished, well-rounded dish with innovative flavours. The “Long Trip” of homemade Asian dumplings of snow crab, chicken, vegetables, reindeer and pork with a small dish of lightly cooked halibut was really exceptional… and dispelled any misgivings that the fusion cuisine would be a miss-mash of flavours for the sake of novelty… and all served with an understated sense of theatre. This made a meal… a really enjoyable dining experience. Pudding was also an experience. One of us opted for the very rich… almost too rich… chocolate terrine with sea-buckthorn sauce and the other had the cloudberries, pikelets and NYR…. Both were really enjoyable. The Service on the evening that we visited was warm, efficient and very professional. Our waitress was really proud to work for the restaurant and was keen to ensure that we had a dining experience to remember. It was a really good “fine dining” experience which really enhanced our enjoyment of the evening … we noticed that tables of groups on a lower level around had a different menu but their plates also looked very good and there were certainly murmurs of satisfaction all around. As we left there was a cheerful “Goodbye and “Thank-you!” Overall… not the food that the miners of old would have tucked into after a shift but… the meal was exciting, the food, service and ambiance reached the high standards that we expected from a restaurant charging these prices. And…. Probably the most northerly fine-dining restaurant on earth! Top Tip: an after dinner stroll in the midnight sun… with reindeer ambling around the hotel… sheer bliss!More
