This is my second time visiting this restaurant now. Both times I've had the Filet steak, in fact, it was so good the first time that my partner and I went back for a second time and it didn't disappoint. Great atmosphere, pleasant and attentive staff. The only disappointment was the starter. The smoked salmon consisted of some packet smoked... More

We are very fond of this restaurant. It's has no frills and fancy decor but it really doesn't need it. The staffs knowledge of their bar products is fantastic and they have always managed to impress us. What did we have Starters Crab and avocado 🥑 -very fresh Prawn cocktail - very nice Mains Australian fillet steak with whiskey and... More

My wife and I went here after work and really enjoyed it. The food was really tasty and well presented. The wine selected for us and the ports were excellent. Would go back again.

Dine in a private booth or on an individual table on flagstone floors covered in sawdust. An environment to savour. Fine foods, specialist dishes and an extensive wine list. Priced sensibly and still after 35 years the place for a good meal, great surroundings, attentive staff. What more.

A wonderfully unique and atmospheric place to visit. Food was superb and the wine excellent. All the staff were really friendly and knowledgeable about wine without being snobby about it. Highly recommend a visit.

We had particularly sought this place out because of its reviews. We were immediately ejected from this basement only, pub style restaurant. Our crime was that our daughter was under 16. Is that even legal? They must be doing far too well commercially if they can afford to be so discerning.

Our crusty old Dickensian candle-lit dining rooms with mahogany tables and sawdust covered floors is one of the most atmospheric venues in town.
All our food is freshly made by ourselves, we use top quality ingredients from some of the best suppliers in the county. In addition to our standard menu we always have a few "specials" and at lunchtime we serve a light lunch/snack menu.

The Pipe of Port first opened its doors in 1976 as a Davy's Wine Bar before being taken over by sisters Janet & Sue and Sue's husband Stephen in 1981. One of the guiding philosophies of the family was that in an ever-changing world some things should always remain the same. This ideal is reflected in the decor and general welcoming and homely atmosphere of the Pipe of Port. The Restaurant is now run by Martin, who spent many years as manager of The Pipe of Port, before becoming a Wine Buyer for one of the UK's leading Wine Merchants. The philosphies and ideals that have defined the restaurant continue today - to bring you homemade classic & contemporary British food and world beating wines in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Our cellars offer a wide range of wines from around the world and we have travelled the globe seeking out interesting winemakers with a passion for their craft.
