4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed yesterday NEW

It's not so much the sandwich that pleases at the Sir Walter Tyrrell (although it was fine), but the setting. An old pub, full of character and history set in the middle of the New Forest and the Rufus Stone. A dream. Beautiful walks in every direction. Add to that coal fires, really friendly service and a decent set of... More

In hindsight we should have realised that the fact that the pub was empty on a fine Saturday lunchtime was not a good omen, as a pub like this, in such an amazing setting would normally attract people. When we arrived around 12.30pm, only one other person was in the bar, ( awaiting fish chowder). The garden was empty, and... More

We go to the Tyrell quite often but this is the first time we have eaten with the new management. Both went for the homemade pie of the day (pork,Apple and stuffing) which was amazing, a proper pie! Will definitely continue to recommend

We have recently had a couple of good meals at The Tyrrell at very reasonable prices. (the butter does not arrive wrapped in those ghastly portions) James - who we believe has been there for a few months now, together with his team really make you welcomed. There is a good atmosphere in the pub and we will be returning soon.

We came as a family of 5. Welcomed in by friendly staff who we got on really well with. Lovely home cooked food. I had a chicken and ham pie. Can't understand the bad reviews. You are at a lovely pub with amazing scenery paying £11 for a massive portion. People need to remember the sir Walter Tyrrell is a... More

Thank you for your kind words, especially with regard to your comments on the friendly staff and good home cooked food. You are correct in what you say, we are a pub, a beautiful pub in a beautiful part of the country, and we don't ever want it to be anything other than that. As a new, small family run... More

Took the family here for lunch today. Pretty empty yet barmaid forgot 3 out of 5 drinks (which they kindly comped us). Also forgot to order two of the kids meals. Ploughmans was fine, very average. Kids burgers were poor - all cheap bought in ingredients. The real question is why you'd go here rather than many of the better... More

Thank you for your review but I'm afraid I strongly disagree with your comments regarding the "cheap bought in ingredients" I can assure you they aren't, and I find your 2 star review a little unfair. The burgers are fresh from a very local farm as our the vast majority of our ingredients wherever possible. I can't comment on the... More

We had booked a table for nine for New Year Eve afternoon. When we arrived we stood for quite some time waiting to ask for our table. We were shown to our table and given some menus. The place was really cold although it was early afternoon. We ordered drinks from the bar which included a coffee. We waited a... More
