This is an average pub that is in need of modernisation, the usual chain pub, not much character, average beer, nothing to write home about.

We popped in for a pint and to get warm. The sign outside said a traditional fire. Sat in the bar which was warm enough complete with old style electric fire, initially though a bit of creative writing going on by the management until shortly before we left found a roaring fire in the next room which was a bit... Lovely friendly pub with an on fire. Reasonably priced. Visited on karaoke night (which we'd normally avoid like the plague), but there were a few good singers.

A very traditional old pub with the most amazing open fire. We went in about 5.15pm and didn't expect much but we were pleasantly surprised. I understand what people say about the landlord being unfriendly but to be honest I think he is just a quiet man of few words. Menu was on the blackboard and is varied. I had... More

Didn't have a meal, although there is a good selection of cask beers. The pub is nice and warm with a real coal fire and the Sunday Quiz is not to be missed.

We stopped off here as we saw food was being served. Upon entering we were greeted with a very sullen faced barman. We even struggled to get a hello out of him. Ordered food, had drink with food and left. Not much more to say really

We were visiting Alnwick and needed lunch. Popping in here we were surprised to see that we were the only customers and wondered if we had made a bad choice. We ordered food and drinks and after about 10 minutes the food arrived. I had a lamb dinner which was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed. This is a good old... More

Our family called in here for lunch and every meal was spot-on.The landlord seemed a bit unfriendly at first but he soon cheered up.I liked that he asked if the kids wanted salad with their meals, usually it just gets plonked on then they leave it at the side of the plate.I can recommend the hot beef stotty (for tourists to...
