We spent a week in a Lodge nearby and we ate at the Crown 4 times. Michelle is an excellent landlady and the pub is so welcoming. The menu was spot on, more than a pub. The food quality was very good. We ate in the restaurant three times including Sunday lunch. The food portions were just right and not too big so we could sample puddings. The Sunday lunch which they only serve one was nicely cooked, gammon with a homemade parsley sauce and lovely roasties and veg. Lemon posset and the chocolate mousse was so good my husband had it twice. The fish and chips was so fresh with Cornish cod which fell apart and the colour showed how fresh it was, covered in a thin non greasy batter. Chips great. Seafood sharing platter was very good too. They have a well priced and good quality wine list and they keep their cask beer excellently. Always good to go in a pub and see all the locals drinking the cask. The pub has a real community feel and it was very welcoming. We will definitely return to the lodge and the pub again. Absolutely spot on.

WOW! Fish n' Chip Night (Thurs) is not to be missed!!
As soon as we knew is was fresh fish our orders were placed and our meal and dessert exceeded our expectations.
Delicious Hake in the lightest of batter with proper potato chips and buttered crushed peas followed by a choice of homemade dessert.
Do not pass this little unassuming country pub by - it is so worth a stop for the amazing food and the fabulous hosting my Michelle and her little team.

Michel, Chef and her team are absolutely fabulous. A nice warm inviting atmosphere, I’m not local but such a warming pub to visit. We came for the fish and chips night which was the most succulent, tender fish I have never had - I shall be visiting more often for evening meals so long as you pre book as the village pub is very busy!

Bar full of locals - great if they make space at the bar for you to be served and reach your drinks but these ones didn't. Cheerful landlady but was not helpful at all and when we asked if we could eat we were told, quite curtly, that they start at 6.30pm (it was 5.15). We said fine okay, we'll have a couple of drinksand smiled. Then we were told, again rather curtly, that they were fully booked and she turned away to her local clients. Not a problem being full as we could (and should?) have rung ahead. But there were four tables in a side room that were not reserved, although others clearly were. The pub definitely had the vibe of 'locals only welcome, travellers, newcomers and tourists stay away'. Perhaps it was just us they didn't like..... never again.

Called and booked a table on the reviews and the menu advertised on the website for tonight. Ordered my drinks and sat down at my table only to be presented with only half the menu that was shown on the website. No burgers tonight as advertised on the website, Thursday was supposed to be burger night. The chef was unapologetic and didn’t careless, so ended up just having an overpriced drink in a pub that had as much atmosphere as a death chamber. A waste of my time driving out to this place, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Lovely pub with an outstanding hostess, Michelle 😊 Food was tasty and the chef accommodated our vegetarian requirements perfectly! Michelle was so helpful and went out of her way to help us….she even provided us with a bottle of milk to take back to our lodge as all the shops were closed on our arrival. The following day we had car issues and needed a lift to the local train station, we went back to The Crowne Inn to ask Michelle about local taxis. She was more than happy to help and ended up driving us to the train station!! Absolutely lovely lady….would recommend this pub without hesitation ☺️

Staying in the local area and visited with my wife, dad & his wife and WOW what a find this was, starting with an excellent land lady whos welcome was worthy of 6 stars !.
Moving onto the food which was epic! considering we live near the east coast we all opted for the fish & chips which we all agreed was probably the best we have had for a VERY long time cooked to perfection with amazing chunky hand cut chips mushy peas also all cooked & seasoned to perfection!.
Ending with a perfect little cheesecake desert which was excellent.
All in all very much worth the visit & if we didn't live four & a half hours away we would be proud to call this our local.
If you are staying in the area on holiday you need to visit here for food!.
Oh & they also sell local honey & have good real ales!! .

We have visited the crown on several occasions over the past few months. Since discovering this gem, we rarely go anywhere else! We’re always greeted with a warm welcome and the locals are so friendly. The food here is by far the best we’ve ever had in a pub. The chef is so very talented! So far, my favourite items on the menu are the fish and chips (the chips are to die for) the Malbec 😉 and the Sunday roasts. The owners can’t do enough for you and the curried cashews behind the bar will keep you coming back for more. If you’re in the area and looking for a great place to eat or drink, you really can’t go wrong with this place!!

Recommended to us by a local tea shop this old fashioned pub is worth a visit. Currently they are only serving outside in their imaginatively converted car park with a limited menu of sharing platters and bar snacks but it has a wonderful alfresco continental dining by the roadside feel. Food was very yummy. We had a seafood sharing platter but meat and veggie platters were also available. Beer was also good. Service is leisurely but worth the wait.

Arrived at the pub 3 mins before the kitchen closed after lunch service but the lovely lady behind the bar was more than happy to accommodate both myself and my partner but also our 2 chihuahuas. We didn't take long to choose and went for the Seafood Platter and a portion of chips as recommended. WOW the seafood platter was fresh and tasty (included delights such as crayfish, smoked salmon and scampi) but the chips were literally the best I have tasted since I was a child at my nans house. We will be calling in again when we are next in the area to sample the evening menu which looks divine! .
If you want a 'proper' pub which is warm, welcoming and traditional with amazing food then try The Crown (ps its like stepping onto the set of Heartbeat..very cute & quaint)

We've been regular customers of the Crown since their innovative 'beer in the garden' after the first lockdown had ended. Since then and for a month or two we've enjoyed beers indoors with a lovely log fire and friendly company. Now we are suffering a second lockdown and Tier 2 restrictions, the Crown is offering first class meals on Friday and Saturday nights.
We came two nights ago and enjoyed some of Blaine's excellent cooking (short ribs of beef and seasonal veg as well as delicious desserts). Michelle and her staff, with their friendly way made for a memorable evening. Superb wine as well and we really enjoyed a glass of dessert wine afterwards. Thank you for an excellent night out.
As well as running the pub, they have served the community well with fresh meat to order as well as ridiculously fresh fish. Veggie boxes also. Take away hot meals on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays have been first class. All in all, here is a pub with people determined to make it work, for themselves as well as the community, in spite of Covid, and they deserve every success. Heartily recommended.

My wife and I decided to try the Crown, having been walking in the area. We and our dog, were immediately made to feel welcome by the landlady. The food and service were excellent, despite being plagued by a number of electric power cuts to the village. Despite this, a cheerful atmosphere was maintained, and the food produced was hot, tasty and well presented. We shall definitely return, and would not hesitate to recommend The Crown to others. Thank you. Paul & Linda Derrick

Found this pub by chance driving past. Only outside eating in their garden and a limited menu but don’t let this put you off. We had the seafood sharing platter with baked potato chips. Absolutely delicious. There was a choice of 2 other platters too. We enjoyed food so much we enquired about Sunday lunch the next day which we booked. “Takeaway” but they bought out to us on plates so we could eat in pub garden. No choice but fab roast pork with all the trimmings. Just as good as home cooked which is rare. Had delicious puddings as well. Excellent value for money and good, friendly service. Highly recommended.

We've been back to The Crown a number of times as we come to the area for walks. We always get a warm welcome from Michelle & Blaine and we've really enjoyed the evenings we've spent either outside or inside next to the log burner. A lovely atmosphere with friendly patrons.
The food here is also spectacular. Blaine does an excellent job. The fish and chips are amazing, as are the Sunday roasts. Everything we've had has been delicious, even down to the curried cashew bar snacks. I can't recommend The Crown enough.
