Since this being our first meal following the easing of lockdown, we had our apprehensions. On arrival to The Castlebrook we could not have felt any more at ease. We were greeted by the lovely landlady Hannah who made all rules and procedures/protocols exceptionally clear....The pub grounds are very well maintained adhering to covid rules with a very high standard of cleanliness. The spacious outside area made you feel most welcoming and totally relaxed. The food was absolutely outstanding very reasonably priced with good size portions and the all home cooked! Compliments to the chef (Hannah’s husband) who took the time to come and talk to their guests another fantastic touch. We would truly recommend and will return very soon.More

A warm welcome, cozy surroundings, good Covid measures. Enjoyed Steak, yummy butcher sausages, homemade pizza and ham and chips. Standard pub menu.

Hannah and Tony, along with Alfie the Golden Labrador, were lovely and very welcoming. The locals were lovely too. A lovely pub!

We've just moved to Compton Dundon so wanted to try our new local. We called to see if there were any tables available for a family of 5 and Hannah booked us in within the hour. The menu was all roasts which suited us fine....The pork, lamb and beef were delicious, with the lamb and beef just falling apart. The crackling on the pork was crunchy. When the plates first arrive initial impressions are that it's a small portion, but within minutes the dishes were flowing out of the kitchen. Bowls of roast parsnips, roasted potatoes, fresh veg and a gravy boat you could float a boat in! Excellent food. Desserts were offered and everyone had one, The lemon posset was amazing, as were the sticky toffee puddings. A faultless meal with some drinks came in at less than £100 which is a bargain in my eyes. We'll be back.More

We went here for a meal on a Sunday in August, looked on the website beforehand and the menu looked really nice with lots of different meal choices so booked a table unfortunately on the day after we had ordered our drinks we were then...told that only roast dinners were being served that day which was not made clear on the website or when the table was booked over the phone. The roast was very small considering the price and the deserts seemed over priced as well. Overall I don't think we will be returning to this pub.More

Hannah, Tony and Alfie were all very friendly and accommodating during our visits to the pub for both food and drinks. The food was also very tasty, fresh and served well. Would recommend the pub to anybody visiting the area in future!

We visited on a rainy Wednesday and received a very warm welcome from Hannah. The food was excellent and well priced. It arrived in good time. Our children also enjoyed their dinners and were made to feel comfortable. The toilets were spotless and modern with...good baby changing facilities. All round I would definitely recommend.More

We had another excellent meal at this pub today, a magnificent Fish Pie and a fabulous Plum Frangipane Tart. As usual Covid rules were well observed and the staff were friendly and efficient. The food was home cooked and delicious. Recommended.

Questions & Answers
Ask a question
Hello, rather than leave a poor review I wanted to give you the opportunity to answer a question. My party of four popped in this lunch time having booked a table earlier and we ordered four baguettes. The service was not at all good, having to wait 50 mins and me having to ask how much longer we will be waiting for our order (one couple next to us got fed up and left). If we were time constrained this intended relaxing meal would have become much more stressful than it did as the waiting got longer. Can you tell me if you intend improving this as looking at other reviews it seems quite a problem you have. Also, do you prioritise serving reserved tables over those who come in having not booked? I must add, the food was very good indeed and I would really like to see you succeed but your in very real danger of getting a reputation for very poor service. Thank you.
