Since this being our first meal following the easing of lockdown, we had our apprehensions. On arrival to The Castlebrook we could not have felt any more at ease. We were greeted by the lovely landlady Hannah who made all rules and procedures/protocols exceptionally clear....The pub grounds are very well maintained adhering to covid rules with a very high standard of cleanliness. The spacious outside area made you feel most welcoming and totally relaxed. The food was absolutely outstanding very reasonably priced with good size portions and the all home cooked! Compliments to the chef (Hannah’s husband) who took the time to come and talk to their guests another fantastic touch. We would truly recommend and will return very soon.More
We've just moved to Compton Dundon so wanted to try our new local. We called to see if there were any tables available for a family of 5 and Hannah booked us in within the hour. The menu was all roasts which suited us fine....The pork, lamb and beef were delicious, with the lamb and beef just falling apart. The crackling on the pork was crunchy. When the plates first arrive initial impressions are that it's a small portion, but within minutes the dishes were flowing out of the kitchen. Bowls of roast parsnips, roasted potatoes, fresh veg and a gravy boat you could float a boat in! Excellent food.
Desserts were offered and everyone had one, The lemon posset was amazing, as were the sticky toffee puddings.
A faultless meal with some drinks came in at less than £100 which is a bargain in my eyes. We'll be back.More
We went here for a meal on a Sunday in August, looked on the website beforehand and the menu looked really nice with lots of different meal choices so booked a table unfortunately on the day after we had ordered our drinks we were then...told that only roast dinners were being served that day which was not made clear on the website or when the table was booked over the phone. The roast was very small considering the price and the deserts seemed over priced as well. Overall I don't think we will be returning to this pub.More
Found this pub whilst en route home from Dartmouth. Really warm and friendly welcome, good straightforward food, well organised for Covid. A really good find and publicans really trying to make a difference.
Hannah, Tony and Alfie were all very friendly and accommodating during our visits to the pub for both food and drinks. The food was also very tasty, fresh and served well. Would recommend the pub to anybody visiting the area in future!
We visited on a rainy Wednesday and received a very warm welcome from Hannah. The food was excellent and well priced. It arrived in good time. Our children also enjoyed their dinners and were made to feel comfortable. The toilets were spotless and modern with...good baby changing facilities. All round I would definitely recommend.More
We had another excellent meal at this pub today, a magnificent Fish Pie and a fabulous Plum Frangipane Tart. As usual Covid rules were well observed and the staff were friendly and efficient. The food was home cooked and delicious. Recommended.

Hi there, firstly thank you for your time giving us this feed back and totally understand your issue. We accept that the waiting time is unacceptable and are extremely sorry on our behalf. We have had meetings recently with our brewery as they have built a spectacular restaurant however the kitchen is too small for our capacity. The only way we can reslove this is shorten our menu which we are in the process of doing. We will in the near future have a lunch menu which will be shortened down and a separate dinner menu. We do prioritise customers that pre book from which we had quite a few this lunch time and noticed your party hadn't and other customers. We then had 6 tables order at the same time and delayed the kitchen. We have also noticed that because the majority of our food is fresh it does take that little longer to prepare also. We also had some customers leave the restaurant at lunch time, however they left from a separate issue not the waiting time as they were informed of the delay upon arrival. Unfortunately your party was not informed of the delay when you arrived which we cannot apologise enough for and really hope this hasn't put you off from coming again. If there is anything we can do to to ensure you come back again please let us know and we will be more than willing to accommodate you. Once again thank you for taking the time to issue us this feedback.
Wesley & Nicki
