The Star Inn Reopens for business on the 2nd August 2021 Newly refurbished following a large flood last year the pub is looking fantastic and has great new menus and drinks. The Star Inn is a friendly pub with a welcoming bar, log fire and good food to go with good beer. In the summer the large beer garden is open and well behaved dogs on a lead are welcome throughout the pub. The Star Inn was first documented as the Royal Oak in 1794, the first landlord was Josiah Watts 1794 – 1808. Robert Stoate closed and reopened the pub during 1825 as the Star Inn. During it’s history the pub was owned by the Egremont trustees in the 1870’s then the Wyndham Estate in the 1890’s. The Star Inn is situated…
We booked a dog friendly table 15th August 2020. Table was Outside under a marquee, didn’t get cold and kept us dry 👍👍👍 good menu choice, excellent food, quick service and staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend a visit and would certainly go again...if we were ever in the area! Best food of our holiday! Make sure you order a side of onion rings!!!More
We went to the star for a meal and ended up staying all night, such a lovely pub with fantastic food! Very friendly staff (especially Jason )!!!! We will be back, thanks to Ross too for the food and drinks!!! 😁😁
OK we arrived a little late for food, really only wanting a drink. The youngest member of our family had not eaten properly all day due to being busy at work. Despite the fact that food service had stopped a few minutes before, Katie, who...was cooking that night, took pity on him and had a quick look at what was left. Within a few minutes he had a marvellous pork steak which was so good he pushed it for seconds.....
This pub has gone to great lengths to keep going and to get its social distancing right through the Covid restrictions and so will appear a little strange in appearance because it is just not that easy to get the spacing right in such an old building. Go with them, give them a little leeway, and try the chef's specials. Our young Harvey did and he doesn't want to go anywhere else now....More
Booked a table for four of us at 7 pm and our dog also came with us. Friendly and enthusiastic welcome and shown to our table. Took out order for drinks immediately which came to us promptly. Ordered food, starters were great and hot, garlic...mushrooms, calamari and chicken wings. Then fish and chips, two steaks and a pork belly - all came promptly hot and tasty. Staff were attentive and made sure we were happy with everything - left by 9pm very satisfied with service, hospitality and quality - If you are in the area then this place is a delight. Special mention to Jason who also gave our dog a couple of treats. Well done the team at the Star inn .More
Two hour wait for food and when it arrived was cold and not what we ordered. The kitchen couldn't cope with the volume of orders. Staff did their best but were left facing unhappy customers who were complaining about delays and poor food. In my...view the blame is on the management who got greedy and accepted too many bookings. Other places we've eaten on the 'eat out to help out' scheme have been organised and limited the number of customers so that the quality of service and food have not sufferedMore
Meal had been pre-booked and a deposit was made. On arrival, staff were rude and gave us incorrect instructions which resulted in us walking into areas where people were eating and we had to be directed to the correct place by fellow eaters. We arrived...at 6:50 & ordered at 7. The table was filthy and we had to clean the table ourselves using our own hand gel and tissues.
We all ordered the same meal.. steak cooked medium which you would think would make it easier for them. 2 hours later.. the food had not arrived. We noticed that people who had arrived after us were receiving their food. We asked the waiter when our food would arrive. He said that he did not know. He was shocked that we had waited two hours and went to find out. He came back and then said that they were only just beginning to cook our food. I asked him if I could speak to a member of management in which a young girl arrived and looked very uncomfortable and tried her best to try and help us. The food had still not arrived 20 minutes later. I asked again to speak to management and the girl stated that "there are no managers in tonight". I walked into the bar and asked to speak to someone with authority. A "boy" came out of the kitchen with a attitude and instead of trying to talk to me.. decided to shout at me. I explained what the issue was and he stated "we have a lot of local regulars around here and sort them out first. We know what they want so it's easier". I said that what he said was disgusting and he should serve people in the order that they arrive and the food is ordered. I told him his behaviour was atrocious. Then, a man appeared and abruptly asked me what the problem was. I informed him also qnd his response was "my waiter has sorted you some drinks so whats your problem, what more do you want". I stated that he can keep the drinks, we were hungry and had waited 2 and a half hours for food. He told me to go outside now as your food "may have arrived". 3 meals came out, out of 4. They were all missing sides. When questioned again I was informed that onion rings take longer to cook than steak and they would come out after the last meal was dished up.. resulting in the rest the food going cold. I went and queried this as this information was passed on through young workers who were dealing with incidents that management should be dealing with. I can guarantee that they are not paid to be dealing with the lack of organisational skills that were being demonstrated. The young polite girl came over and tried to help once again.. the older rude and annoying member of staff came over to the table and was obnoxious and condescending. The waitress backed me up on the boy (name beginning with d) and his unacceptable attitude and was dismissed by the rude member of staff. I told him I was not happy and because of the service and lack of sides I wanted my money back. He walked off without saying anything. He appeared with my money and put it on the table and walked away. He did not apologise once and lacks people skills. He then sent the children to come and snatch the food from the table. The kids looked embarrassed and uncomfortable and apologised that they were told to do this. Not once was we issued an apology.
Listening to a conversation on the table next to me.. it was said that they were actually happy that they received there food before 10 o'clock for once.
The amount of workers that look 16 is mind blowing and are left to deal with uncomfortable situations that is definitely not in there job description.
I would give this place a wide birth and would not recommend that you book with them. There responses to reviews are also extremely condescending and are telling blatant lies. If your local.. well done - you may stand a chance of being served!More
