Lovely old pub opposite the huge brewery. We had delicious ale and generous cheeseboard. The landlord told us he didn't like the beer and he hated cheese. The other customers all knew each other. It's a shame that from the end of the month it won't be open until 4pm on weekdays.

Congratulations to the new management! A really sympathetic refurb of a very traditional boozer and Burton landmark. The two new extended rooms work a treat and the beers remain as you'd expect from a leading real ale pub.

Lovely little pub not far from the train station and the national brewery centre. This is how pubs should be! Nice and snug and offering a wide range of ales and many different spirits. The cheese board we ordered was more than we expected! And the husband loved the huge pork pie! Friendly staff and over all great atmosphere.

A must visit in Burton; the recent refurb by Joules has been sympathetically done and not detracted from the character of this gem - as ever wonderful beer and the cosy layout encourages conversation with strangers.

YOU MUST TRY THIS PUB....... This is a real hidden gem, we visited Burton Upon Trent to go to the Brewery Museum and was recommended this pub, it's got lots of charm and and is a real step back in time. I'd recommend the cheeseboard, we had 3 cheeses and the amount you get is incredible and paired with the... More

Great pub serving real ale and a great atmosphere just been refurbished but not changed and no character has been lost. This pub contains the old spirit of Burton and visiting is a must.

Found by chance walking back to hotel. Popped in just as it opened. Landlady said she only took it over and opened it back up 4 days earlier. Was well stocked with ales, and had a really nice pint. Only stayed for 1. Went out for food and returned to this pub after. Bit busier, and could sense the pub... More

Really genuinely characterful original interior, no makeovers here! A good and varying selection of real ales sold straight from the barrel. Pork pies and crisps but no food - a true and very busy drinkers pub. Check it out if you're visiting Burton.
