Went for happy hour because we were staying at the Nines Hotel and were a little disappointed - Granted the outdoor seating area with the amazing views was closed because it was 40 degrees & pouring down rain. Happy hour was house wines & cheap Japanese beer - none of which were good. The food was fine for their specials... More

We had a table for 9. It was a nice large square that allowed plenty of interaction. Great views of Portland. Reasonable prices, great food, and great service. We had dinner but this looked like a great place to just have a drink as well. We each ordered a couple of things. Plate were small / medium and we kind... More

The food was amazing and the service superb! After a fun day of exploring Portland, it was nice to sit back and be pampered.

We went here for the views. The terrace is closed until Spring, but the wait staff still tools us out to look around. The food was delicious. Great overall experience!

I have been coming here for years and I absolutely love this place. It's in downtown Portland so it is very easy to find as the restaurant is on the top floor of the Nines Hotel. I suggest getting here early and have a cocktail out on the rooftop deck that overlooks the city. Have a drink or two or... More

Meeting friends on the top of the old Meier & Frank building in downtown Portland would be a good thing. Apparently everyone wants to do that too, especially at the mid-week dinner hour. Although the food was good the portions were small and pricey. The area was very loud due to the number of people. Would I go again? Maybe,... More

I have been eating at Departure for years; and, often. I've written one glowing review after another about how amazing the food is; especially for vegans. Last year we celebrated VD at Departure and ate the single best meal we have eaten anywhere in the world; and, we've eaten vegan food at some of the finest vegan restaurants in the... More

My husband and I did not eat here, but enjoyed an early evening cocktail and the beautiful view of Portland. Go while it is still light out, great spot to take pictures. Crowd is mostly 20-30 somethings. We are in our mid-40's and did not feel out of place at all. Cheers!

My wife and I went here for our anniversary. The food and service was excellent. We asked the waitress for suggestions on the menu and she was a great help. The next time we are in Portland and looking for a great place to eat, we will be going back. Top End...

Description
Departure Restaurant is located atop the Nines Hotel and offers modern Asian cuisine in a sleek, cosmopolitan setting with two outdoor decks and stunning views of the city, mountains and river. Chef de Cuisine Gregory Gourdet creates traditional Asian preparations with Northwest ingredients in signature dishes such as the restaurant’s grilled kushiyaki selections, Indonesian spiced chicken and maguro karai honey sushi rolls. Departure’s bar showcases exotic cocktails, a global wine list and the city’s largest sake list. The saké and shochu list is one of the largest in the city and represents many hand-crafted, artisan producers. Departure boasts the design skills of Jeff Kovel of Skylab Architecture, one of Portland’s leading architectural firms. The overall design of the 9,000 square-foot space added a new full-level 15th floor to the original 1908 Meier & Frank building and two new rooftop patios with views overlooking downtown Portland, the Willamette River, Mt .Hood and Mount St. Helens. The design elements play off the notion of an urban escape.
