The Quiche was excellent, the french dip was great but the horse radish sauce on the first sandwich was so hot, I could not eat it. I asked them to to take it back and get me a new sandwich with no horse radish sauce, they honored my request with out complaint. When ordering this item have them put the... More

My girlfriend and I were in Portland on Saturday during the mini snow storm. The restaurant we originally wanted to go to closed early due to the weather. Across the street, I noticed the Chez Machin sign and suddenly had a craving for crepes that I've never had before plus we wanted to get out of the snowy weather and... More

I hadn't been to this restaurant in years, mostly due to a bad experience we had the last time we visited. This time around, we came for dinner -- and had a very nice time. A couple things to know about this joint if you are coming for the first time: during the winter months, when the back deck isn't... More

If you want a perfect mix of Portland cool and a taste of France this is your place. Great service, savory food, and all the intangibles that make you feel like you walked off Hawthorne Boulevard into the quaint French Bistro you travel across the world to visit. Crapes are a must but I try something new every time I... More

Chez Machin has a new owner and we are sad about it. We have been coming here for almost 20 years and were disappointed with our entrees on our latest visit. To be sure, crepes are still their strong point and we found the ones we had quite good (about $6 per). Both sweet & savoury are still worth visiting.... More

Went to this charming café for brunch. I had egg benedict. Wow! One of the best benedicts I have eaten. Also the bacon was very good. It was great to hear French music being played. It added to the atmosphere. There is a cover patio in the back. Service was very good. It was a lovely brunch and not expensive.

Most savory crepes were $8-$10 each and are very filling, dessert crepes $5-$7 (and can be served with ice cream for $1 more), vegetarian options, great street. The Groupon makes this a good deal! :) The French Onion soup wasn't super great.

I just got back from a month in France so I thought it would be interesting to have lunch here. My server was pleasant but I had to wait way longer than I should have for a pretty simple goat cheese salad. Also, the cheese was weirdly breaded and fried - not sure why they felt that they had to... More

The service at this small French Bistro was friendly and efficient. Chez Machin's crêpes are the best I have had since returning to the states from living in Switzerland. You can even build your own savory crêpe . . . there was no food left on my husband or my plate. Do try an dessert crêpe and after dinner coffee... More

I had lunch here with friends. A friend recommended that we try the escargot and crepes since she had it many times at this restaurant. Everything we ordered was great! The dessert crepe with lemon curd was amazing! The only disadvantage eating here is parking. We have to park a little bit far so we are not rush (one hour... More

Description
While Chez Machin's food is based on the local and rural cuisine of France, it has grown and changed with the times and culture of the Hawthorne neighborhood.
Chef Seth Neeser took over the kitchen in 2008. Since that time he has continued to improve and update the menu to keep up with the times. Keeping things fresh, current, local, and delicious is on the top of our priority list.
