My partner and I have been visiting the Pack horse for 18 years. We have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We live in Cardiff and always make a point of coming for lunch when visiting family in Burnley. The landlord can be a little brash at times, but we always took this with a pinch of salt. However our... More

We stopped here for a late Sunday lunch en-route between Luddenden Foot and Edinburgh on the recommendation of our son who said it was a special place. It certainly was and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, as that's what it is. The beer looked great, but with Scotlands draconian drink drive rules my wife was the only one to... More

Great food, friendly welcoming atmosphere, warm in winter and marvellous at any time of the year after a bracing moorland walk. We have been coming here for years.

Okay so I'm a recently turned vegan and it is now normally impossible for me to go out for a walk with my parents followed by a decent meal. They love this place and we've been before but this was the first time I'd been in ages. The menu only had two veggie options both loaded with cheese so I... More

Used to visit here years ago and popped in while on a bimble for a spot of lunch - delighted to find it totally unchanged! Friendly service (although you no longer order at the kitchen door) and great food and beer - will come back sooner next time!

The Packhorse was a welcome sight mid-way around a long walk. Nice welcome. Good choice of beer in excellent condition. Quality ploughmans. Interesting photos and memoriabilia of the local industry.

We have visited this pub over the past few years and have never failed to be impressed, however last night was a totally different experience. On arrival the bar was empty, unusual in itself, the menu has been replaced by the chalk board above the bar. The rack of lamb has disappeared and been substituted for loin of lamb. As... More

Have visited the Pack Horse several times over the years but not for about twelve months. Staff friendly and welcoming. Even though there was a Fell race starting from the pub and some tables were reserved we were shown to a table set out for six. We all had main courses, 1 steak, 1 fish pie, 1 lamb liver and... Dammit meant to take a photo of the food but had eaten it all before I remembered! Went with friends and between us we sampled the beef broth, liver and bacon, fish pie and rack of lamb, all were delicious and the scrapings we left were only because we were all full and so didn't get to sample dessert but...
