We were recommended the Turnpike by the owners of the holiday let we stayed in and we were not disappointed. So much so, we visited 3 times. Food was really tasty and exceptionally well priced but more than anything the welcome we got from the...staff was so nice. Felt like nothing was too much trouble and a special thank you to Danielle for taking time to talk to us and make us feel like we'd been visiting there for years. Cannot wait to come back. Thanks guys!More
The quality of the food was matched by the service provided by the serving team, particularly Danielle.
Definitely the best dining experience we had during our weeks holiday in Cornwall.
Deserves SIX stars.
Visited this pub for dinner on a Friday evening following some recommendations.. we were blown away at how good the evening was. The food was amazing and so well priced. Service great too! We had choices from the specials board which was great. One tip...- go with empty stomachs! The portions are massive.More
Visited here while on holiday in hayle and so glad we did the food was plentiful and very delicious the service was great very attentive and helpful excellent value for money we spent a very enjoyable evening here.
As a local who lives in the village, The Turnpike has long been a regualr place for a drink or meals with friends and family. The last visit was in June prior to me heading overseas for a couple of months. I ordered a steak...which to be blunt, for the cost was dreadful. One thing I have learnt over the years, is that a cheap cut can't be made good despite the skills of a chef. The pub sadly has becone more like a service station, with the new management more interested in catering in quantity for tourists as opposed to quality. Locals are no longer welcone, and after coming back 8 weeks later to the village, many regualrs have been banned or have been insulted by the management and will no longer go in. These are good people, who have frequented The Turnpike for many years and are certainly not troublemakers. Myself and family will not set foot in this pub until the current management are gone. There are some good pubs locally, so alrhough not as convenient the quality of food and welcome is significantly bettwr and will frequebt them now. Would recommend anyone to give this place a wide swerve, and if St Austell Brewery have any sense they will listen to the multiple complaints and replace the current clown show. Winter is coming.More
We have been coming to this lovely friendly part of Cornwall for over 30 years always
using the Pike as our holiday local. Over that period of time we have become great friends with lots of the locals and look forward to having a friendly...chat when we walk in the door. Unfortunately since the new Landlady has taken over this can no longer happen as she has told the majority of them that they are not welcome !
This pub has now lost the great friendly atmosphere it once had Oh what a great shame Although this pub might be busy with summer trade it can be a long winter and she might regret her attitude towards the locals or though I doubt it
I hope the next time we visit this lovely part of Cornwall it will be under new management
The Locals deserve itMore
We were on holiday in Cornwall with our great friends from Houston , Texas staying in a Cottage on the Trewinnard Estate at St Erth . We had read reviews of nearby pubs / hostelries and chosen daily one to eat our dinner at ....We were in Cornwall for the week and decided the best we’d eaten at would be our last night meal venue. This was in fact The Turnpike Inn , our second visit was just as amazing as the first , we had eaten ( in no particular order ) Fish pie , Sea Bass , Curry and Lasagne all absolutely delicious and really good sized portions . Trip Advisor had designated all 5 of the establishments we visited with 4 and a half stars !, Well our American friends and ourselves do not understand how The Turnpike Inn does not carry 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Because it was far and away superior to all the others . This was not only the quality of the food but the ambiance of the pub together with the cleanliness but another HUGE Bonus was the friendliness of the Staff really welcoming !, we all felt appreciated Our waitress Danielle was a diamond explaining every dish with enthusiasm and accuracy together with a beautiful friendly smile and attitude.
We would recommend you try The Turnpike Inn yourselves you won’t be disappointed .
