We were used to stopping at a roadhouse en route Syd Melb but this time spent a few minutes off the Hume Hwy to visit Gunning and found this wonderful cafe built inside a wonderful old 1820s facade. The lunch was absolutely lovely and all prepared on site I understand. I had the bacon and Parmesan pie and my husband... More

When you are travelling down the Hume Highway and are sick of the fast (very junk like) food places on the road,,,, take a short diversion to Gunning for QUALITY food with friendly service. A very nice break in the trip

A delightful place to stop for a cuppa and tucker. Pleasant, good smiling service, and CLEAN: unlike the most popular highway centers. They also have a good Gluten-free option, so my wife was able to eat something more substantial than chips. Oh, and the toilet was beautifully clean - an added bonus. Any time we travel the highway past Gunning... More

Usually visit this little country town when we stay at Queanbeyan. The steak sandwich on a turkish roll is delicious. The scotch fillet is always tender and they have their own dressings which sets it apart from the normal steak s'wich. There are also homemade slices, etc.

Travelling through rural NSW on an observed public holiday we were thrilled this cafe was open. Hubby and I had delicious meals but more importantly for us the kids got to have some plain food instead of fancy gourmet plates or "nuggets and chips". They relished their vegemite sandwiches. We really appreciated the kids menu ( and the scrumptious sweet... More

Lovely cafe in the heart of a cute little country town. A fine selection of food, we had some bacon and egg roles, scones and pretty good coffee. A good place to stop, worth a visit.

Definitely worth hopping off the highway for a coffee and some delicious baked goodies. The cafe is in the main street and only one km off the highway. I would recommend a stop here instead of one of the commercial fast food stops or petrol stations. Also a couple of older buildings worthy of a look.

Visited before so knew it was worth the detour off the Hume Highway. Good choice of meals, well prepared and tasty. Coffee was excellent as was the atmosphere.

My husband and I dropped off the highway to have a coffee. Merino Cafe is nicely appointed with tables both inside and out. I was waiting to place my order when a man pushed in front. The waitress knew I was next but did nothing about it. Rather than making a scene I let it slide. In the end after... More
