My husband, son and I had the pleasure of a most delightful dinner overlooking the stunning highlands. The wonderful service, the fabulous food and the feeling of truly being welcomed made for a terrific first night of many to follow on this visit to the Cape.

The food was excellent, a the setting was beautiful, high on a hill overlooking the Cape abreton Highlands. We watched hummingbirds feeding as we ate. I had a beet and blueberry salad to start; it was delicious. My husband tried the wild mushroom soup, with wild mushrooms gathered on the property. It was a littl bland. My entree was seared... Our family of four adults had a wonderful two-day stay here in July, and the gorgeous rural peaceful location was just the start. The rooms were comfortable and decorated with treasures from Earlene's (the owner and chef) family and trips, making it feel like a real home. Every aspect of the inn was crafted with an environmental mindset, and this... More

My very first lobster meal was beautifully cooked by Keith and Earleane, and I could not have been more satisfied. Thank you both for beautiful food and a lovely stay at the Chanterelle!

The Inn is a great place to stay and wonderful place to eat. Home made food is cooked to perfection to order. The Inn is located on a hill with a beautiful setting right off the Cabot Trail. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Thank you for taking time to write such a very generous review of the inn and restaurant. We are pleased that you appreciated our efforts to locally source the ingredients of our cuisine---and Cape Breton ingredients are second to none! It truly warms the heart of a chef to read that guests judge their food to be prepared very well. More

Nice location and friendly banter. Limited but nice menu. I was disappointed that my dish contained pork and it wasn't listed on the description of the dish on the menu. Like many people I don't eat pork so I think this should be pointed out clearly when added as an ingredient. I had to leave my meal almost uneaten and... More

Thank you for taking time to write regarding your experience. Yes, the menu is limited because it changes daily. And since we prepare everything from locally produced ingredients, supporting an extensive menu is impossible. The menu usually lists 2-3 soups and salads, 6-7 desserts, and three types of main courses: a meat, a seafood or a vegetarian option. It is... More

'I'm afraid I can't cook you a proper meal, ma'm', Earlane said to me trying to book a table at 6 pm. That triggered us really, because we were very anxious to get a proper meal. The next evening we had a 'proper meal', and the night after, and even the night after that one. Though we had to drive... More

We stayed and dined at the inn. The food was incredible. We had one person with Celiac's and they were more than accommodating both for dinner and breakfast. I had the local Halibut and it was done to perfection. Many thanks to Keith who made our evening memorable with lots of humour, and excellent service.

Thank you for such a complimentary review. I am so glad you enjoyed the halibut as it is truly a sacred fish! Keith's humor is indeed the authentic droll humor of the descendants of the Scottish highlanders. He was pleased that you shared it! More

My girlfriend and I were looking for a romantic country inn in Cape Breton to spend several nights while we explored the Cabot Trail. We read about the Chanterelle Inn on trip advisor. The location was perfect, and we loved that the owner, Earlene, has a passion for protecting the environment. We decided to give it a try, and we... More

Thank you for taking time to write such a warm and complimentary review. We take it as an honor when guests select the Chanterelle for special occasions. Glad you were here in the midst of mushroom reason and that you enjoyed them. As to your experience on the verandah, Keith often offers to speak to those birds if they are... More

A friend and I made reservations here looking for a nice Saturday night dinner. What a charming place! We were served a simple but flavourful meal focused on fresh, local ingredients. Desserts were exquisite (try the chocolate potato cake and bread pudding!). The wine list is extensive with multiple local choices. The owners were beyond welcoming and absolutely lovely. Would...
