My review may have been higher except I just returned from some great Mexican restaurants near San Diego. SD delivered 2 baskets of chips with 4 types of salsa, Mad Mex -NONE! The fajitas were bone dry, but tasted OK. Pittsburgh does not offer many great Mexican alternatives, so Mad Mex may feed your cravings.

Their unique menu shows wonderful creativity. Lots of vegetables in new combinations and variations of old standby tacos, burritos and enchiladas. You might not expect red cabbage or Brussels sprouts or bean sprouts on a Mexican menu, but you would be wrong! This is NOT a restaurant where everything tastes like it came out of one pot. Great with kids... More

I was pleasantly surprised! I expected another overpriced taco place and I was so wrong. Uniques combinations of unique ingredients like pepita hummas, etc.

CONS: -We had to ask for the chips and salsa that is served before the meal -The consistency of the salsa is a Pile of salsa stuck together like playdough- I have never had salsa like this and it didn't even have a good taste -Meh chips -Terrible margaritas, the worst ever, expensive, little alcohol and mostly ice and mine... Best Happy Hour in the Burgh. Also, hands down the best Burrito's. Fantastic atmosphere, Big Burrito nails the décor as in every one of their restaurants. The service is always top notch, and the food is always fresh and delicious. Thanks!!

Stopped in for a quick lunch and was not disappointed. They have specials and the food was great. We had quesadillas and kids had tacos and everybody left happy.

Nice decor and average food. Nachos had everything in scopes and mixed around. Asked if guacamole could be in chunky came out like made in blender same with salsa. No need to return

Average Mexican food, good drinks, good service, but having to pay for the guacamole seems a bit ridiculous in a Mexican restaurant.

We are regulars at Mad Mex. It is a great place to go with friends or take the kids. The food is delicious and fresh. The happy hour specials can't be beat. Awesome beer selection and the margaritas are super. The kids meals are an awesome price for a drink, fresh veggies, entree, and dessert. You really can't go wrong!
