Yes, the view is spectacular and yes, you get what you pay for and by that I mean it was a quality meal at a fair price. The Ild Fashion was one of the best I’ve had ever. We ordered a charcuterie board and before...it can we were gives a mushroom soup taste. I hate mushrooms but that was amazing! The charcuterie board was delicious. Then we had a spicy lobster bisque which was a great portion but I could have eaten many bowls of this and I would highly recommend getting this soup. For our entree we had chilean sea bass which was cooked to perfection over some kind of purée with broccolini. It was the perfect portion, season to bring out the taste of the fish but not cover it. Lastly, we were too full for desert however, they brought us a small chocolate brownie in a bag to take home. Everything about this meal was perfect. This was my first trip back to Pittsburgh in over 30 years but I’d return soon just for another meal at this restaurant! Superb by far! I have no pictures to share as it was truly a dining experience not a photo shoot. Ops. I do have a photo of the view.More

Altius is a special occasion restaurant sitting up on the bluff in the Mt. Washington area. It has a contemporary American menu. It is not for the budget conscience. Altius combines a good dinner, attentive service with the best view of Pittsburgh. After dinner take...the Duquesne Incline for a joy ride up and down the hillMore

The view IS spectacular. And the service was VERY attentive. The menu and wine list are on paper (which I like - no plastic). The food was very good. Now the bad part. The prices are VERY high - likely a premium for the surroundings....And I will admit I do not like "restaurant speak." Tonight our fish will be.... and it will be pan seared and served with a xyz accompaniment. Followed by - "no problem." Oh - to end on a positive note - the waitstaff had NO PROBLEM splitting our bill, which was medium complex. Actually TWO positive notes - one of the specials (which we had) was LESS than most of the items on the printed menu and was very good. So maybe they deserve 4 stars....More

While we did not eat here, we did stop for a drink at the bar. The view from this restaurant may be the best restaurant with a view in Pittsburgh. Right next to the upper incline station with a great view of the city! We...enjoyed an icy cold light beer at the bar & the views as the sun went down. A little pricey but the service was exceptional. Will have to dine here the next time we are in Pittsburgh.More

dinner for 2 without drinks about $200. from the top: Amuse-bouche 1. Beet gazpacho VG 2. Focaccia with sundried tomato and pesto toppings Excellent. Caesar salad - good but too heavy handed on the anchovy. Nice light croutons. Duroc pork chop - good. tasted very...brined, but it was tender and had a couple interesting sauces with it. Accompanied by purple masked potatoes which were OK and Brussel sprouts. Everyone has gotten so good at Brussel sprouts, I was expecting to be impressed. I was not. In contrast to the briny chop, not seasoned enough. My wife had the filet and it was good and tender and $65. It's hard to mess up a good filet, so no points here. Ordered three sides. Mushrooms very ordinary. Carrots were supposed to be butter garlic, tasted like boiled then sauteed a little bit. Very flavorless. This bothered me because I had just made oven roasted carrots with nothing but butter EVOO and salt and pepper and they were light years ahead of these. Third side was risotto with pears - I know! - and gorgonzola. This was a home run, if not a grand slam. Surprisingly not sweet, and although not quite fresh from the saucier, good effort for restaurant risotto. Dessert was the lime thingy and it was borderline excellent. Wine list was ridiculous, barely looked at it. I don't understand why American restaurants don't want to sell wine. C'est la vie! My initial impulse when I looked at the menu was to get the soup and a salad and the risotto and Brussel sprouts. I would have been happier and saved a fair amount of money.. But the twilight to night view was amazing. Gotta love Pittsburgh!More

We had a really great day in Pittsburgh in perfect weather! When we called to confirm our reservation there was a glitch. Hostess Chloe was really accommodating and fit us in for our dinner. We went a little early to have a cocktail and were...able to sit immediately. We had a window table on the second floor. Beautiful sunset over the three rivers. Our waitress was Denise and she was truly wonderful! We were with our close friends and weren’t rushed in any way. We enjoyed great cocktails. One husband had the spicy crab bisque and the other had oysters on the half shell. They both raved over their appetizers. We were also served a couple small tastes from the chef…again delish! Two of us had the grilled pork chop, one husband had the steak, and the other had the lamb chops. I don’t know how to describe the meal other than saying is was excellent for each of us. Each couple shared the lemon tart with strawberries, shattered meringue, & shortbread cookies. We just loved the fact that the drinks were good, the food was outstanding, the service was exceptional, and the city view was gorgeous! Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!More

5* view, 5* service, 5* ambiance and decor, 2* food I was wowed by the exceptional view and elegant interior. But the food, basically, was very disappointing. Both my husband and I disliked the salmon poke appetizer, which we shared. We left some of it...on the plate. The sauce tasted good with the raw carrot shavings, which I finished and enjoyed, but I didn't enjoy the same sauce on the salmon. I am a huge fan of salmon tartare and salmon poke and eat those dozens of times a year; they're among my favorite foods. But not this recipe. I was equally disappointed with the vegan mushroom entree. Too salty is my biggest complaint. Loved the carrots but there weren't so many of them; I found myself wishing the dish had included more vegetables; celery or parsnip or turnips would have tasted good in that dish. The polenta and mushrooms were OK but not exciting. And there were way too many mushrooms. The dish is overwhelmingly mushrooms. Had been expecting to enjoy the food more at this restaurant.More
