dinner for 2 without drinks about $200.
from the top:
Amuse-bouche 1. Beet gazpacho VG 2. Focaccia with sundried tomato and pesto toppings Excellent.
Caesar salad - good but too heavy handed on the anchovy. Nice light croutons.
Duroc pork chop - good. tasted very...brined, but it was tender and had a couple interesting sauces with it. Accompanied by purple masked potatoes which were OK and Brussel sprouts. Everyone has gotten so good at Brussel sprouts, I was expecting to be impressed. I was not. In contrast to the briny chop, not seasoned enough.
My wife had the filet and it was good and tender and $65. It's hard to mess up a good filet, so no points here.
Ordered three sides. Mushrooms very ordinary. Carrots were supposed to be butter garlic, tasted like boiled then sauteed a little bit. Very flavorless. This bothered me because I had just made oven roasted carrots with nothing but butter EVOO and salt and pepper and they were light years ahead of these.
Third side was risotto with pears - I know! - and gorgonzola. This was a home run, if not a grand slam. Surprisingly not sweet, and although not quite fresh from the saucier, good effort for restaurant risotto.
Dessert was the lime thingy and it was borderline excellent.
Wine list was ridiculous, barely looked at it. I don't understand why American restaurants don't want to sell wine. C'est la vie!
My initial impulse when I looked at the menu was to get the soup and a salad and the risotto and Brussel sprouts. I would have been happier and saved a fair amount of money..
But the twilight to night view was amazing. Gotta love Pittsburgh!More
