I love this place. It's not a white linen spot. So I wouldn't recommend for fine dining. But it was want good seafood, this is it. All you can eat oysters were $32. A full tray was $17. I got all you can eat with hush puppies and loved it.

Located at the end of a dirt road, this place is definitely worth the bumpy ride. After waiting in line to place your order at the counter, you find a seat and wait them to holler you name. It's a bit unorthodox, but boy is it worth it. I got a combo platter with shrimp, crab cake and fish. My... More

This is the kind of restaurant you go to at least once when at the beach, or, indeed, when you live in the Charleston area. Unless you are there early, expect lines and wait times of 1/2 hour or more. But the people in line, who are doubled back on one another, can be a very friendly bunch. Most have... More

I was with a group that shucked their own steamed oysters with knives on a long metal table. Wear old clothes for this event. Use bug spray if you go at dusk and want to stroll the pier outside. That being said, the oysters are fresh and delicious. You also get to know the other diners. I like an informal... More

You cannot alter your order from their offerings: no substitutions and everything comes with fries and coleslaw...barely coleslaw. It's about one oz, maybe two. Fish and shrimp barely had any flavor and both were greasy. View and setting were AWESOME though! Fun place to go with a group of people without high expectations of good food.

Locals from around the area told me about Bowen's Island...I think what intrigued me the most was that I was told that "this restaurant is down an old secluded road in Folly Beach. You'll feel like you're headed no where & then at the end, the road opens up to the water with this simple seafood restaurant". I was immediately... More

If you care about hygiene, skip this restaurant. The only redeeming quality about this place is the setting, and extremely nice staff. But the tables are sticky, the oysters are steamed in conditions that would make your toes curl, and the bucket they gave us for the oyster shells was slimy, wet and grimy. The oysters were WAY overdone and... More

The wife and I took the sister to Bowmen's so she could experience a real South Carolina meal. The bright red sunset over the water was as pretty as any we experienced before. The cluster oysters were very good and the sister had fun forging and eating the meat for the very first time. The fried food on the other... More

Bowens Island is so good! The oysters are amazing, always caught fresh. They treat you like family. Not only are their oyster great though, they have amazing shrimp, hushpuppies, fries, and fish. Robert Bowen has always let his staff and customers write with Sharpie all over the walls and tables. It's so welcoming and cozy. The lines are long, but... More

This is a very cool place at the end of an unpaved, bumpy road. The views from the upstairs dining rooms and porches are very nice. The downstairs "oyster room" is pretty cool. The oysters are steamed and served in stuck together clumps which customers must shuck themselves. We had oysters, crabcakes, corn on the cob and coleslaw. None if... More
