This restaurant has been a gem in the Charleston community for a long time. Everything on the menu is flavorful and filled with southern charm. With never a short line, locals stop by to get a taste of a "real" Charleston cuisine. Personal favorite for years.

I've visited the Charleston area several times this year. This is my first chance to really eat local. North Charleston cooking differs from Charleston. This place was great. Clean and friendly, I recommend it to everyone who wants a taste if true southern soul food. Daily menu specials change the meat dishes. Oxtail is served on Wednesday. Some veggies might... More

We got there at 4:00 PM which was too early for dinner so we elected for take out back to the condo. We thought they had gumbo but did not. The lady at the counter was very patient with us and told us what each entree was as it's cafeteria style. The fried chicken was great. They had red rice... More

Ok, so if you are looking for some good southern low country food on the cheap. This is the place. Now let me warn you, its nothing to look at from the outside, but the line is out the door with Charlestonians. And trust me, Seafood isn't the only thing they take seriously. Red rice, Okra soup, not to mention... More

I have been here twice and usually near closing. We love their chicken and they always fry us fresh pieces regardless of time. I am from Ohio and we make the effort to stop here when traveling south.

Today my wife and I returned for another meal. I had the Stew Beef over rice, collards and Lima beans. My wife had the fried Chicken, mac-n-cheese and sweet potatoes. I think I could eat their stew beef every day for weeks and not get tired of it. My wife loved the coating on the chicken and also the bread... More

This is southern style home cooking. It's not fancy food. It's not foodie food. It's not trendy food. I highly doubt there is anything certified organic or vegan or non-GMO. But they do have great southern food at a good price. And you will find a line waiting at the door when they open. I liked the fried chicken, the... More

If you want REAL southern "soul" food while in Charleston, you need to go to Bertha's. There are actually a good number of soul food places (all hole in the walls) but Bertha's was one of the first I visited, and I have continued going for years. My go to is the lima beans...if you want to get down with... More

Food was good but those Lima beans were off the chain! You can get a leg quarter with Lima beans and a veggie for $4.50!!! There was a lot of people coming and going. The kitchen area was busy and there was a really cute lil baby girl watching everything go down! We had fried pork chops, cabbage, okra soup.... More
