The very unassuming building houses a top notch restaurant where you can sample the real cuisine of the SC sea islands. Gullah cuisine is characterized by ingredients that have been available around the Lowcountry for centuries - seafood, okra, beans, collards, and other fresh ingredients that have served as the basis of the cuisine since the days of slavery. You... More

The food was amazing, cooked by the owner who was a local. Housed in a building that is 139 years old and full of history. There was one cook and one server, got to talk with both and learned some great cultural facts.

Whent here for lunch. The place was closed. Still recovering from Hurricane Matthew! As we were about to leave, Chef Green rolled up and invited us in. HI sp not over an hour, telling us about his cuisine, and we purchased 3 CD's demonstrating how to make Frogmore Stew, Gumbo, and Shrimp and grits! Chef Green identifies youngster "at rusk",... Bill the owner is actually a very interesting guy. The location is right in the middle of Frogmore. Local cuisine from a local. Can't get better than that

Chef Bill Green served my group of about 30 teachers during a conference on St. Helena Island. The Seafood Gumbo was delicious and the cornbread was moist and addictive. He and his wife are a treasure. If you want to get a peek at the place check out a cute little book on Amazon called My Trip to St. Helena... More

My husband and I were interesting in tasting Gullah cuisine and we are so glad we did. We ordered Fish Chowder and Low Country Crab Soup. Both were delicious with lots of fish/crab. For dessert, we shared a peach cobbler. For authentic Gullah food, we would recommend you give Gullah Grub a try.

I really feel like Gullah Food is nothing more than what we think of as country style / soul food. We showed up for lunch and most of things on the menu that you would really want to try were not available. Service is slow and the building is old and doesent have a clean feel to it.

Excellent food. Sweet service. No alcohol, no soft drinks, just water, tea and lemonade. The peach cobbler for dessert was huge! You ge piece of delicious corn bread when you sit down. It's slightly sweet and does not crumble. Shrimp Gumbo was different front from what I have had, almost a BBQ flavor, sweet and smokey. The she crab soup... More

After passing this place several times while vacationing on Saint Helena Island, I just had to stop in and check it out. I had a small bowl of shrimp gumbo and it was delicious! They also give you cornbread prior to your meal coming out, which was also yummy! The restaurant is in an old house and has Gullah art... More
