What I like about this place is the building, looks fantastic, plenty of parking and steeped in history, it deserves to be a success. So rather disappointed old menu on their website therefor 2 items we wanted were not available, although, they were more than happy to make said 'prawn cocktails' for our party, so happy faces. We seemed to be... More

My wife and I stopped off at the Old Thatch on the way back from hiking the Itchen Navigation Heritage Trail. Great meal and good service. We both had the fillet steak which melted in out mouths - excellent. My wife had the Honeycomb Cheese cake which was one of the best we've tasted. I had the Apple and Blackberry... More

This is a pub full of history so apart from food an experience to visit. A combination of a local and visitors. Very large car park, cosy alcoves and very friendly staff

First visit today for Sunday carvery, really good ! Excellent roast pots, huge yorkie puds, parsnips, the works, gravy was tasty. You get a good portion size of meat. The staff were so friendly, nothing was rushed and the crumble pudding was amazing. Great value also. Nice relaxed atmosphere, will definitely visit again.

We popped in after a friend said the food was good. They were not wrong, we were met with a very warm welcome in what I would describe as a warm old tradition pub. Were served very quickly and shown to a table. The service was very quick and friendly. We only wanted a light lunch so I chose a... More

Having not visited the area for a while I thought I would explore the local country pubs as a warm summers day was calling out for a decent ploughman's lunch! After a quick search I came across The Old Thatch and a quick scan of Google reviews made pleasent reading. As I drove up to the pub, I should have... More

The ambiance, welcome, seating and food was perfectly ok on our second visit. But the service was appalling. From being seated to our main course arrival was nearly three quarters of an hour. We had almost finished our wine by that time. We were hoping for a pudding, but having been given the blackboard menu, but no-one taking our order,... More

I'm a veggie and my wife is a carnivore, so it's a rare delight to find somewhere which caters well for both of us. There was plenty of choice, the food was tasty, the beer very drinkable, the service was warm and prompt, and the surroundings were amenable. Can't fault it.
