I'm a local to Tain. This used to be the well known place to go for food. The menu has gone from a vibrant, full of choice menu, to sub standard pub grub choice. It's so sad. Waited 25 minutes for my starter (breaded Brie that takes most 5 mins). Asked the waitress where is was, she was absolutely lovely... More

We were staying in another hotel in the town and called in to the Royal, intending to simply have a drink. I have a working Assistance Dog. We were stopped in the lobby and informed that dogs could not go in to the restaurant. We explained my dog was an Assistance Dog (she was in full uniform - a Hearing... More

Visited the Royal for a Sunday lunch a few months ago, to start here plates and cutlery were in need of a good wash, which wasn't a very pleasant. The menu was a decent size and seemed reasonably priced for what you got, I think it was £15 or there about for 3 courses. When I received my roast, the... More

Working in Tane. Decided to go to the Royal Hotel. The young manager was extremely friendly and welcoming. He showed me around the facilities. Bar ,restaurant, the meeting room and the function room. There were some lovely views of the Christmas lights on the high street. Cosy place.

We chose the Tapas option and were not disappointed. At £10 each it was excellent value. The menu was extensive and the staff very efficient and helpful.

I work in a hotel so i'm pretty lenient if the service/food isn't the best but the main reason I wrote this is thanks to the kitchen staff. We walked down the side road and at the fire door there was 2/3 of them sitting on the floor smoking, IN THEIR WHITES!! I smoke myself so you can't say i'm... More

We visited just for an evening meal in the restaurant. The waiting staff were helpful, the food good and plentiful.

Food is lovely, but the portions are very big. Although it is a compliment rather then a complain :) staff were very friendly but not all staff members. Manager was just amazing. He Knows a lot about whisky.

We ate here a couple of times while holidaying in Tain - and it was as good as we'd remembered from a previous visit. There was a great range of choice on the menu, and our food was excellent - hot, delicious, well-cooked, well-presented and huge portions. (So much so that while all the desserts looked wonderful we were unable... More
