I thought since they have their own valet parking ($8) that this place HAS to be amazing. Sadly, not the case. I was the only non-BBQ lover in my 4 person group. I chose the ham, cheese, and salami sandwich and I gotta say, pretty...More

Hi Molly, Thanks for the comments on the service! We are so sorry you didn't enjoy your food. Our family started out 70 years ago just serving ham sandwiches - we serve them on rye bread and have condiments on the table if you need...More

Attempting to cut the pork ribs with a plastic knife on a styrofoam plate was a real challenge. Sadly, the pork ribs had little meat and the only flavor was in the rub. Good ribs are meaty and fall off the bone if properly prepared.More

Hi Mary Ann, We are so sorry you didn't enjoy your food. I just responded to a similar 1 star review re: cutting the ribs with plastic knife and on styrofoam plate. Our ribs are definitely different - they do not fall off the bone...More

Friends recommended this place so I was looking forward to good bbq. I was disappointed. Baked beans tasted like pork and beans out of a can....slaw was bland and watery....ribs had been in the warmer too long and were dry. I was always taught if...More

We went on a recommendation. We had the dry rub ribs, brisket and the sides. Enjoyed the meal. Red beans and rice were great. Baked beans were terrific. I've been spoiled lately with Texas brisket, but this was terrific. The ribs lost most flavor after...More

I love the spicy coleslaw, and the wet & dry everything. I usually go for the pulled pork because it seems like a massive amount and I always end up with a doggy bag. These people really know what they doing when it comes to meat....More

We used the Valet Parking and we saved alot of time looking for Parking and then we were a short walk to Beale Street after Dinner. $10 for Valet was cheaper than a parking lot. Don't let the location of the front door scare you...More

Honestly I was not expecting much. I had heard all the hype about Rendezvous for years, both good and bad. I always heard the staff was rude which was partly true but also not as bad as people made it out to be. Really what...More

Hidden from hustle and bustle of Memphis, tucked in alley across from the Peabody. The best brisket & ribs you could ever want. The coleslaw is mustard based and delicious, beans have smoky flavor. Came here with friends enjoyed the food so much we went...More

The Rendezvous has the same slow cooking of ribs like other bbq restaurants in Memphis, but these have a dry run on them, rather than sauce. You can get sauce on the side. I personally like the sauced ribs, but I do like the change...More

I don't believe they take normal reservations but I would definitely call for a large group. They have rooms big enough for 40-50.

Description
The Rendezvous, founded by Charlie Vergos in 1948, started out as an 80 seat tavern serving ham and cheese sandwiches. When Charlie cleaned out the basement beneath his diner, he discovered a coal chute and started a barbecue legend. The coal chute gave Mr. Charlie a vent for his considerable talent over the grill. He developed a unique seasoning fusing his Greek heritage with spices he enjoyed from New Orleans. Mr. Charlie was a collector and hung antiques, memorabilia, and artwork on the walls. This, along with a soulful jukebox, lively waiters, and aromas from the kitchen helped him to create an atmosphere unequalled in the city of Memphis. Today, the restaurant is still in the Vergos family and run by Mr. Charlie's three kids. The ribs still taste the same as they did in the beginning. Ribs are the Rendezvous' specialty. Years ago, people started calling them "dry ribs" which is a terrible misnomer. The ribs are neither "wet" nor "dry." They are moist and juicy and come heavily basted in a vinegar solution that should be used for dipping, and they are sprinkled with our unique Rendezvous seasoning. Any use of sauce should be on the side. Most of the main dishes come with a 4 oz side of baked beans and a unique mustard/vinegar based cole slaw. Should you want additional sides, they may be purchased for only $1. While Rendezvous is famous for its ribs, don't overlook the other items on the menu. From the beef brisket to the pulled pork shoulder sandwich to grilled chicken everything is excellent and well seasoned. The newest item, the greek salad, is a recipe that comes all the way from the Vergos' village back in Greece. On your way out, pick up a bag of BBQ popcorn. The Rendezvous can handle parties as large as 300, call us for reservations. Reservations are accepted for 15 people or more during the week and 25 people or more on the weekend based on availablity. Our main dining area is in a basement. If you require elevator access please let our hostess know.
