Stopped in here for lunch after touring Graceland, and I'm so glad I did. I absolutely loved this place. Payne's BBQ is an old gas station that has been converted into a awesome restaurant. Everything is served on paper plates, it's not fancy, but the food is fantastic! They've been featured on Food Network for a reason. I order the... More

I've been to a lot of restaurants, but if I had to pick one for final meal it would be Paynes. The building doesn't look like much (converted gas station), but don't let that scare you off. I've been to nearly every BBQ place in Memphis and Paynes is my favorite. The sliced pork sandwich with hot sauce is the... More

Ribs were just perfect--tender, moist inside, crispy outside, really flavorful. The Ribs were drizzled on top with the tangy sauce, rather than being drowned in it, so you could still taste the meat. Beans were a tad over cooked, but perfectly seasoned, & the dollop of tender pulled pork on top was nice. The slaw was strange-extra saucy & very... More

After our Memphis BBQ disaster at Rendezvous we were afraid to try again but my wife demanded a Tennessee pulled pork sandwich. Payne's was a great find and she said this was among the best pulled pork sandwiches she has had. I played it safe with the sausage and it was excellent and very tasty. Expect the most friendly people... More

Their BBQ sandwich is wonderful, as is their smoked sausage. But they put WAY-WAY too much slaw, which is sweet and mustardy, on everything. It's not that the slaw is horrid, just used too liberally for my taste. I would recommend the place but get an order of slaw on the side and ask not to have it put on... More

I walked in a few months ago, ready to eat and was told they only take cash. I very rarely carry cash on me so I left. someday I may go again if I have cash on me.

I stopped into Payne's BBQ in Memphis as I was passing through the other day. To some, the neighborhood and even the building aren't anything special but don't judge a book by its cover. This place is awesome. Chopped pork sandwich with a mustard based cole slaw ..... Pure Heaven! Don't miss out!!

The pulled pork and slaw burger is hands down the best burger I have ever eaten. It's genuine Memphis bbq! Worth the ten minute trip from Beale Street. You will be thinking of the food long after your meal!

Great BBQ pork sandwich. A mustard based slaw was unusual but tasty. Unique location and not easy to find but well worth the visit .
