Ate out with my father in September 2016. Lovely atmosphere, food and service. Fresh bread brought once ordered. Kids menu is spot on. Really enjoy the side vegetables which come with the meal. The Cwrw Cader (locally brewed ale) is to die for, and I don't usually drink ale so that is saying something. Thanks for breathing life back into... More

The hotel is old and very historic, but the food was fantastic. A drink in the lounge was a great start to the evening. Then the food was top drawer, with very good staff.

This is a lovely old hotel on the high street whose owners, Charles & Sheila, ran it for many years and then moved to Italy. However, on hearing that Wynnstay had closed earlier this year, they returned and are breathing new life into it. We were initially drawn in by the candlelit exterior which was a pleasurable contrast to the... More

We stayed here for three nights, during the Machynlleth (music) festival, and also ate here during our visit. The food was good, although the soup had rather more salt in it, than is our taste. There is a wide choice of Italian wines, including several very reasonable house wines, available by the (litre) carafe.

We visited the Wynnstay this evening for a family meal. The surroundings were cosy and welcoming with friendly staff . There was a great selection to choose from and each meal was delicious with lovely accompanying vegetables. We chose a meal from the children's menu too and it was a well prepared, good sized portion. Our desserts were excellent and... More

Have spent several days in Machynlleth with my team and the Wynnstay always comes up with the goods. The bedrooms are exceptional, with superior bathrooms and baths big enough for Usain Bolt to get up a lather.

The restaurant food has always been excellent here, expect something really good and served in a lovely old dining room. I love the open fires, having a drink in the lounge and exploring the menu, with many local food items.

We decided to go for a treat on our last day of our holiday. Read a few reviews so was looking forward to it. First of all, the restaurant was very quiet with no atmosphere. Complete silence - just the scraping of cutlery! Secondly, the waitress could not speak English so had to go and get someone else when she... More

We are sorry you didn't like it. Usually we have loads of atmosphere. The waitress in question does speak English but not too well, she has been with us just a few weeks. It is critical to have the correct potatoes for mash and also they do take time. We had lovely new Pembrokeshire Pearls and home made chips. Our... More

Could do with raising the hot water temperature by a couple of degrees.Comfy room but noisy as it faced onto the street. Wifi only available downstairs

Thank you for your comments. We have finally had the plumber double our hot water capacity. WiFi is available in most of the rooms but some are still presenting a challenge (very old, thick, stone walls) and our IT expert is working to resolve this. We now have a front door key with every room key More

A few weeks ago we stayed overnight at the Wynnstay in-between a couple of mountain climbs. We had a three-course meal after a long day up and down Cadair Idris and the food was incredible. Top restaurant standard, interesting menu, and to top it off, very nice knowledgeable staff. Definitely on the pricey side, especially considering the area pretty much... More

Thank you for this. We are far from being the most expensive hotel in this area. We believe in paying our staff a decent wage, above the minimum and utilities cost here as they do anywhere. There was a time when wages were very low, which was hardly fair. We only took over two months ago and are doing all... More
