Stopped for lunch, asked a member of staff for a table, seated then told to move, then asked to move again! Waitress stock reply to questions; 'I don't know'. Finally ran out of patience and moved on.

Mid way on the easy manly to Shelley beach walk, the bower is a great breakfast or lunch venue. Always sunny throughout the year - insist on sitting outside. Inside is poorly ventilated and you miss out on the main reason to go there ... The view and people watching opportunity.

On a recommendation we stopped at this restaurant, which from the outside does not look fantastic, but the location and the food were great. We had the best beer battered fish and chips I've had in Australia - and coming from a Yorkshireman that is indeed praise!

I had the misfortune to walk into this restaurant for Sunday lunch. Luckily I located a table at the rear which was unreserved and empty. A waiter approached did not ask for my order but pretended to tidy the table and in doing so slipped a reserved notice onto the table AFTER we were seated. She left. She returned about... More

Sitting at this cafe could be easily mistaken for a little restaurant in the south of France or Italy. I cant think of a restaurant thats so close to the water that at high tide you get get spayed. Food is good but you really are here for the location which is stunning.

As a family we went to The Bower many times during our family Xmas gathering for coffee, brekkie and lunch. It was even open on Xmas day. The food was nice and fresh, as was the fantastic coffee. The Asian girl that works there, Ginny, was a delight.......A lot of fun and on the ball. This place is a must... More

This is a little gem located half way on the walk from North Steyne Manly Beach to the Shelly Beach corner. Fish (Flathead) and chips make a perfect lunch

We had breakfast at The Bower on Christmas Day and it was a fabulous start to the day. We booked about two weeks in advance to make sure that we got a spot at 8am. The place was well run with plenty of staff, everyone was friendly and obliging. We had a breakfast burger and eggs on sourdough, nothing too... More

The Bower is a bit of a tradition for us, and we have visited on almost every trip to Sydney. The location and setting facing Cabbage Bay is beautiful, and we enjoyed just having some light food and wine and beer. The food was good. Note that if you haven't been here for a while, it has changed a bit.

Staying in Manly

Neighbourhood Profile
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbour Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.
