As locals we have been to this venue many times over many years and had (Mostly) positive experiences with the staff. Our kids loved the chocolate dipped spoons that came with the babycinos and the food and drinks are generally very decent. In between lockdowns...recently though we booked to give our 7yo a much belated birthday celebration, for which she had requested a “dinner party” with a group of her friends. Staff accepted the booking but clearly not all were happy. Long story short, the owner vented his frustrations at the potential loss of income presented by a table full of kids by shouting at my wife through the serving window. The party wrapped up early, and my wife came home visibly distressed. I sent a terse message privately expressing anger at my wife’s treatment and in response he doubled down on his actions, provided a ranting interpretation of events that painted himself as victim, and ranged from sob story to accusations against my wife, the kids, and the close-by table of parents to justify his behaviour. A response from my wife trying to clarify some of his “impressions” was met with a second massive rant and a similar lack of introspection. I’ve used Tripadvisor a lot for traveling but this is the first time I have been prompted to provide a review. This guy is the president of the local business association, and we will be supporting some of the other lovely, deserving businesses in our (Mostly) lovely community in future.More

Dear Andy, The young group of 7 year old girls were very excited to see each other, especially just out of lockdown and that is totally understandable. However, at the end of the day running around a restaurant, jumping on the furniture, squealing and yelling...More

I thought long and hard before writing this review for this much loved local eatery. We visited with friends immediately after regional Victoria took its first steps out of lockdown 4.0. We were eager to get out and support a local business. Food was mediocre...at best with most meals being underwhelming. When we arrived it stated at the bottom of the menu that there was a COVID surcharge, so we were well aware of this extra charge. It did not sit well with our group. While I fully understand restaurants have done it hard recently, I’m not sure this is an ideal way to treat loyal local customers. Not sure I will be back as this has left a sour taste.More

wanted a nice family outing before Victoria heads into another lockdown. Whilst there was some good service, no one returned to our table to obtain our order. I thought it was known that if people still have their menus they probably haven’t ordered. I understand...that mistakes happen, it gets busy, but in the end we felt ignored whilst others were arriving and ordering. Been disappointed about this place before, so will not be returning.More

Over the busy Xmas period when crowds were at their peak, Driftwood coped extremely well. Whilst food and coffee is as good, if not better, than other local eateries, the highlight of this establishment is the organisation. Staff are extremely well trained, thus ensuring the...wait time for customers is minimal.More

Popped in on a Monday morning when things were quiet. The weekend that are lined up out the front. We had great meals. My wife had the Eggs benedict and it came with 3 very well cooked eggs and a ton of good quality ham....It was excellent. I tried a pulled pork meal with potatoes, vegetables , 2 fried eggs and wonderful Turkish bread, Again no complaints at all. The coffee was hot, the staff were very polite with a smile on their faces. if you are in the area give it a tryMore

Delicious green bowl, lots of flavour and poached eggs were good too. The sourdough had herbs sprinkled on top. Partner had field mushrooms that looked delicious too. Place was busy as was public holiday and some other places were closed.

Lovely people here make this place. The venue is spacious and relaxed, spilling out into a sun-room and onto the street-side. The menu is varied and crosses many cuisines and palates, and the drinks are well-priced. But it’s the patience and professionalism of the wait...staff who are a stand-out, and which explains why this cafe seems always to be busy. Unfortunately not every diner is appreciative but keep up the good work team!More

Serving all day breakfast that satisfied our hunger! This place had a variety of breakfasts to appease the fussy eater. And being a self-confessed coffee snob: the barista made a great coffee! Will visit again!

After months of strict lockdown, it was a great relief to be able to visit regional Victoria and in particular the Surf Coast. We were staying close to town in Ocean Grove and decided on Driftwood Cafe as the menu sounded interesting. My travelling companion...had the pulled pork hash brekky with fried eggs & toasted turkish bread and I had the poached eggs with grilled asparagus, hollondaise sauce, rosemary, parmesan & potato toast. Both meals were tasty, generous and well cooked. Coffee was great (good barista). Service was cheerful and friendly. So great to get away and enjoy good local produce well prepared with attention to detail and respect for the ingredients. Would not hesitate to go back again....and again ....More
