Thanks to Texas' infinite wisdom to have none to nearly no rest stops on the Interstates, whenever we are on a trip to Houston or points East, we stop here. Depending on the time of day, parking may be an issue, but one worth tackling. If you need gas, there are plenty of pumps, but the real gem is the... More

About halfway between Houston and Austin lies Hruska's in the Texas Hill Country. We usually stop here when we head to Austin. We got burgers here and some healthy snacks like pop chips and protein bars. The only thing I wish is that their wheat bread was whole wheat. The ingredients for the wheat bread are the exact same for... More

In my household, most of our travel involves flying. We usually travel far from home and driving just isn’t practical. But we are not immune to the occasional road trip and on a recent jaunt to Austin, Texas, we found ourselves hungry for lunch and driving down highway 71 when we noticed a place called Hruska’s Store and bakery. A... More

Food, fuel, drinks, gifts, clean bathroom has everything you look for in a stop while traveling. It is a long standing tradition to make it a stop when traveling to and from Austin. Hruska was established in 1912.

Great stop for all your needs, good kolaches, old style. Other pastries made fresh daily. Lots of great gifts and all kinds of nuts and goodies for snacks.

Stayed in a rental in Ellinger, and enjoyed breakfasting here! The kolaches are good, along with other bakery goods. Didn't lunch here, but the burgers were recommended by locals. Nice gift shop, clean restroom. Simple table and chairs in a small eating area. Very friendly service. Definitely better than the usual truck stop!

Stopped in to fuel up and pick up some snacks. Not terrible impressed with the pan sausage kolaches, but they have the BEST white chocolate, macadamia nut cookies I have ever put in my mouth!! Chocolate coconut macaroons were pretty good as well.

We always stop at Hruska's to fill-up, have a break and get great baked goods. My son loves their kolache's and I love the peanut butter/chocolate cookies (really almost a scone). They have a wide variety of kolaches: meat, sausage, jelly filled, cream cheese filled. Their deli also makes excellent sandwiches. This is a great stop since it is almost... More

Best kolaches ever! Best pasties! Made from scratch and many fillings: poppy seed, chocolate / cream cheese.

This place was good but not great. Bakery was good but nothing out of this world. It's a nice place to grab some pastries & coffee.
