It is a neighborhood restaurant/bar that is a hidden gem. Great food, great service, and a complimentary cheesy joke from the owner! Their version of a grilled muffaletta is a must - have. I'm sure that purists will object but it's deliciousness puts that to rest. Go try and have an ice cold beer to go with it.

Hyped as a great place for muffuletta and gumbo, not true. Muffuletta okay, but gumbo, have had much, much better. For the price can do much better. There is no other muffuletta on the island, to my knowledge. Really disappointed in what I got for the buck. Bowl of gumbo like $8, and I assure you will still be hungry... More

This is the oldest bar/restaurant in Galveston. The grilled muffuletta sandwich was incredible. Hugh and full of flavor. I will be getting one to go on each trip.took a little time to make and we had some check problems with splitting tab. So much history on the walls about Galveston .

Was a unique place, unique patrons, and a place I would not have gone to unless someone had said it was good. Outside leave a lot to be desired, but inside is warm, comfortable and friendly. Service was a bit slow.

Have been to a variety of places in Galveston that are rated for having the best oysters and have been disappointed with all. Most places have oysters that are small and as a result over cooked. Sonny's is an exception. Their oysters are huge and cooked to perfection. Six oysters are like eating a dozen at most places. Their platter... More

This place reminds me of taverns in northern Wisconsin and Michigan. Great juke box, beers, and burgers. The owner is a great conversation waiting to happen.

We've been to Sonny's many times in the past. It's a cool bar-type place in the first floor of a house. They serve bar type food, burgers, etc. Everything is always delicious. We've always been in the day, and it's kid friendly. There is also a large park across the street that our kids like to play at.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy fine seafood dining, but sometimes you just need a burger...not a hyped up sandwich, just a good burger, fries, and cold beer. Sonny's Tavern satisfies the need perfectly. A local joint that most tourists would never frequent, full of friendly folks with a good juke box and even a shuffle board table. We ordered... More

If you want some Grub...bar food, go to the historic Sonny's. Do not miss the famous Coney Islands... try the grilled Muffalata this place is a dive that has character! Its a bar with great island local food. Look for the bullet holes from the Gangster days.

On a busy Friday night, our friend had trouble finding shrimp in her shrimp gumbo, but we were delighted with our half-dozen plump, fresh-shucked raw oysters, served in a beer mug. This popular tavern is worth a visit if only for the local atmosphere. As you enter, give a look around the room. If you're from Galveston or Houston, there'll... More
