This seems to be one of the better restaurants in town. The restaurant is done nicely with uniformed servers. The food and wine list are good. Unfortunately, we seemed to be there on an off day. We ordered two different glasses of red wine-one had...clearly been opened too long but was quickly replaced. We ordered burgers and the server recommended the fries. He later returned and said they almost out of fries so only one of us could have fries. We’re used to shortages during these trying times, but have not experienced a potato shortage! Service was somewhat inconsistent.More

We went to Jack Ryan’s for a family get together after being a part over a year. It was such a special time and Jack Ryan’s was the perfect place to celebrate. The food was amazing, and the wait staff was terrific.

I have been to Jack Ryan's several times and it never disappoints. We went for my birthday & everything was perfect. There were four of us and we each had a different entree. Each one was cooked to perfection & delicious! When the food &...service is this awesome, you don't even think about the price!!!More

For these prices, they should have a large wait staff. Our poor waiter was stretched thin. After dealing with these issues I found it difficult to enjoy the food which was excellent btw. The sea bass was excellent as well as dessert. I will return...for lunch one day when things are less hectic.More

Have you ever been walking down a gravel road and found a diamond sparkling among the stones? Well, I haven't either, but it must feel like eating for the first time at Jack Ryan's Steak and Chophouse in Kilgore, Texas. My wife and I are...from Indianapolis and were visiting good friends who live in East Texas. They insisted we make the short drive to Kilgore to try Jack Ryan's. My one-word review would be "damn!" This place is truly a gem among gems in this small town in Texas. The décor inside is artful, warm, tasteful, and supremely welcoming. We elected to eat on the outside patio and enjoyed absolutely perfect weather. The only problem we had all evening was deciding what we would order. In retrospect we probably went a bit overboard on the appetizers - the price you pay when everything looks amazing and it's difficult to pick one. So, we didn't pick one, we picked three. The lobster mac and cheese was beyond good and at one point I wondered if it's legal to sell something that good. And, the evening was just starting! I'm always cautious about eating oysters, especially when cold water in oyster beds seems to be dwindling. However, we were assured these oysters were from Maine, so we went for it and I'm glad we did. They were well prepared and well presented. I had a Caesar salad that was served in a creative "shell" of grated cheese baked and then formed into something resembling a broad taco shell. Finally, there was the calamari. My wife and I use calamari as a barometer of how good the rest of the meal will be. The calamari was light, tender, and had a subtle yet flavorful sauce. As a barometer, it indicated good things would be heading our way. And they were. There was much discussion about the menu. Should we try the tenderloin? Maybe the pork chop? I happened to see the short ribs being prepared and was tempted to go with them. We finally made our decisions and all four of us went with the rib eye, medium-rare. I usually go a stich above medium rare, but since the steaks are sou-vided then finished on the grill, I went with medium-rare. (a good choice) Rounding out the plate was a twice-baked potato that was impressive in its own right and was accompanied by correctly cooked grilled asparagus. I tend to not make hyperbolic statements, but this steak was one of the best steaks I've ever had. There's an iconic, world-renowned, restaurant in Indianapolis recognized for serving some of the best steaks in the world - St. Elmo's. If there were to be a blind taste test between a ribeye from them and a ribeye from Jack Ryan's, well, let's just say I wouldn't rush to put my money on St. Elmo's. That's blasphemy coming from a Hoosier. In the middle of the pandemic, this place is doing things right and doing them in tiny Kilgore. It's truly a family business founded, owned, and operated by cordon-blue-trained brothers Brad and Wes Ebey. My guess is they and Jack Ryan's may be destined for bigger things. Remember, St. Elmo's was also a small, family-run operation when it first opened its doors in 1902 and made it through the 1918 pandemic in fine shape. Next time I'm in East Texas, I think I'll try something different and go with the tenderloin. No, wait, maybe the pork chop, no wait the short ribs. It's gonna be hard to choose!More

We save J. Ryan's for special occasions because it is special. This visit was to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday and made reservations early since it was Valentines weekend. When we arrived at the reserved time, we were promptly seated and noticed that while the...restaurant was full, it wasn't packed. The waiter was congenial and took our orders and didn't rush our meal. At this level of dining the service should be very good and it was up until the end of the meal. When the dessert menu was presented, and the guys declined to order, the waiter said he could box the desserts to take home. This was fine, but wasn't something we asked him to do. When he brought the boxed desert, he said he would be back with the check. A few minutes later he returns with the check and before I can offer payment disappears...ten minutes later he picks up the card for payment. Again we wait fifteen more minutes before returning. I may be picky, but waiting 25 minutes with boxed food waiting to leave is too long. Either the restaurant was under staffed, or something was awry. Now the very good, appetizers were great, calamari served with a chili sauce (maybe put the sauce on the side as one of the party doesn't like sauces). The entrees were cooked to perfection( steaks medium well to rare as the could get with the sous vide cooking technique) and served with coordinated sides. All were delicious. Bottom line, will we return? Of course we will, but we will probably avoid romantic holiday weekends.More

Here with a family group of 6- 2 college (one vegetarian), 2 parents, 2 grandparents. (Parents are regulars). Restaurant not crowded and we had a small room to ourselves. Fantastic evening- good food, good drinks, good company! I had Texas prawns appetizer- small but perfect...portion- and tuna entree- tender, perfectly rare. Others had steaks and were very pleased. Our server (Jesse?) was timely and professional. Attentive, but no rush. Just a pleasantly enjoyable dinner. Highly recommended.More

This is hands down the best place to eat in east Texas. I’ve been to Austin Omni restaurant, perini steakhouse in buffalo gap and keopersol winery. All were good. Jacks is better. People giving a low rating because it’s expensive is really dumb. They can...choose the less expensive items or better yet, don’t go. This place isn’t Taco Bell and shouldn’t be compared to it. If you want the best steak you’ve ever had, this is it. The sides and drinks are always amazing and creative.More
