A variety of options on the menus make this place a place to go. Although the place is huge, I would guess at least 75 tables, yo will get a choice of rever view, interior or at the upper decks. We chose the river view and was an excellent choice. The tall wood framed windows were open and the view... More

We had an impromptu lunch at the Gristmill and it was lovely. We had simple hamburgers but they were quite tasty. The view of the river was pleasant and made the lunch very relaxing.

The food was good. The night we ate there, there was a storm approaching which added to the atmosphere.

Had the grilled catfish and sirloin salad both were exceptional. Great setting and no wait on a Saturday afternoon, green beans were incredible. Worth the drive from San Antonio.

While in the San Antonio area for a conference we decided to explore the area and found this restaurant in a pamphlet at our hotel. The setting is tranquil and beautiful. The service was efficient and the food nicely flavored and prepared. The prices were reasonable although for some items (such as sandwiches or burgers) the sides were separate.

The Gristmill is set on the bank of the Guadalupe river - high enough that there are 3-4 levels of decks with tables offering a view of the river and the sound of the water. It's a beautiful backdrop for dining and conversation. The menu is fairly large with a combination of salads, sandwiches, entrees, and apps. Plus, a couple... More

We had such a great lunch here! Very casual with plenty of outdoor seating. They have a multi-leveled deck overlooking the river and you don't feel like you are eating with everyone else. We got lucky and had a super private outdoor balcony which was beautiful. We actually saw a deer eating just a few yards away from our table... More

After a leisurely day of shopping at the Gruene (pronounced "Green") Historical Settlement, the hunger pains set in and we meandered over to the Gristmill Restaurant located in an 1870's cotton gin adjacent to the Guadalupe River. I had their sausage plate and my beautiful bride wanted some Texas steak, so she ordered their filet. Both were delicious. Best sausage... More

Description
Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular
restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years.

Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous
Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and
hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building.
Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the
restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried
steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish
and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge
pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack
Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine
list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.
