We pulled into Ozona, TX around lunchtime. After getting gas, we reviewed the lunch options that were open. It was a Monday, so some places were closed (some places do a shifted 2-day weekend - I'm not complaining, but it is something you need to...factor in when travel-planning). We saw this place was rated decently, and it wasn't a chain / fast-food joint, so we agreed on it. We crossed under I-10 but found that it was located a few hundred yards west on the 1-way access road. Hence, we had to detour through a neighborhood just south of I-10 and work our way over to the restaurant that way. If you are heading east on I-10, it would probably be more easily accessible. Once we arrived, we were only the 2nd table of their lunch shift. A few more groups arrived while we were there, though. Service was good. Their menu selection wasn't bad, in terms of variety. It isn't all mundane Tex-Mex fare, but if that is what you are used to, they can accommodate you. Their salads were also a good option, according to one of our group. Everyone found something to their liking. We all left full. Prices seemed fair. If I were ever in Ozona again, I'd consider a return visit.More

While there isn't a wide variety of food options in Ozona, El Chato's is the place to go for tasty Mexican cuisine. They offer a wide variety of menu options, and the servers are attentive and friendly.

Don’t waste your money there, you are better off buying chips and a coke at stripes! Ordered a tampiquena and got nothing but fat, and I’m not talking about a thin tasty charred fat, it was the white nasty partially cooked fat. Don’t recommend this...place at all. Salsa and chips ain’t all that either. And server didn’t even check on us and there was only three tables with people. I don’t like to give bad reviews but this one deserves it, no pride in their food!More

Big place. Had a Mexican buffet one night it was good. Tacos were good. Was a little warm in the restaurant. Service was good.

I love Mexican food no matter where I am. A motel clerk recommended this place as the best Mexican food in town. Unfortunately I was disappointed in what I ordered, two beef tacos, beans and rice. The taco shells were pink with little meat! The...servers were very friendly and helpful.More

We were passing through Ozona TX on Sunday mid-day. A brunch buffet was attracting a local crowd - families, older folks & friends. Staff & other customers were very friendly even though we were not from the area. Nice to feel welcome in the small...community. The menu was extensive & food was good. I am not familiar with Tex-Mex but food was not as spicy as my AZ fare. Rice & refried beans were the side dishes. No alcohol is served but desserts looked good. Prices were reasonable. Glad we stopped - nice respite (close to freeway exit) from a long drive.More

Very good authentic Tex-Mex that I grew up eating. Houston Tex-Mex is a watered down version of West Texas cafes. The wait staff is very attentive without hovering. Menu is full of good options. Only two negatives. One is you cannot buy beer or margaritas...there. If you want something other than tea or a coke you will have to bring your own which they are happy to accommodate without any extra charge. The second is they are closed on Sunday.More

The food is average - not great but not bad. This restaurants has numerous steps that may be an obstacle to someone in a wheelchair. Clean.

after a hard day of traveling we went to El Chato's for dinner. The food was a BIG disappointment, the the tacos carbon were dry and over cooked, I had the fried shrimp, it looked nothing like the photo in the menu. They were the...cheap breaded butterfly shrimp from the freezer, ugh. We left our dinner after a few bites and left $30 on the table. The wait staff wasn't even concerned, they must have a really big family to stay in business.we went down the street to the steakhouse.More

Both times we have had chicken tacos. The food is not that great but it works for what is available in Ozona. We are traveling and don't want to spend a lot of time. The place is immaculate. It is decorated and Bright. The service...is amazing. We ordered the two taco special for 6.95. Like I said, average food. We received our order in about 5 minutes. We were attended to well. We would return.More
