Had lunch here with some friends. They bring you the food and it's family style: fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, greens, mashed potatoes and gravy, navy beans and biscuits. All the food was good but the mashed potatoes were not hot, just lukewarm. It's all you can eat so it's a good deal if you eat a lot. You get... More

Just had a wonderful lunch at the Pickett House restaurant today. My wife and I haven't been there in probably 25 years! It is still the same as it was. Great food and a very clean, pleasant eating atmosphere. The food is freshly prepared and plenty of it. Best fried chicken I have had in many years. I won't wait... More

The chicken was just like momma's. Everything was served family style and it was all you can eat. I thought the greens were a tad on the salty side, but that's probably just my personal preference. The rolls, mashed potatoes, and beans were all good. I would recommend this for family gatherings; it was very affordable.

This is a buffet restaurant, but, it's always the same food, the food is brought to your table, fried chicken, chicken n dumplings, greens, potatoes. Their lemonade is great, you make your own drinks, even has buttermilk on ice. Has a museum on site, I've never been to it. Service is good, it's boarding house style. You clean up your... More

When we entered, my wife went wild about all the old posters and signs, and the old displayed items. This was even before we were seated. As soon as we got to our table, the wait staff was there with the bowls of food. Then we took our first bite, shear heaven. The three of us could not believe just... More

Stopped in to see the old village. The museum staff recommended the adjacent restaurant. The restaurant served family style and we sat with some retired locals. They eat their frequently. This was nice as they knew the system and service is lacking. It is all you can eat if you can get the attention of a waiter. I was able... More

Problem is my mother was a terrible cook, and one of the things she had the most trouble cooking was fried chicken. The chicken at the Pickett House is bland, bland, bland. It has a simple flour, salt and pepper breading and wasn't crispy at all - just like Mom's. But the real crime is the "service" - rather, their... More

We eat here every time we camp at Martin Dies State Park. Great family style restaurant. The chicken is always hot and crispy, the sides are good and the atmosphere is family friendly. It's fun to gather a group of camping friends around the long tables to enjoy laughs and good food.

This is a historic place and the food is one reason why. It's served at the table in bowls and you get what you want to put on your plate.fried chicken and all the fixings. It's delicious.

The place makes great chicken and dumplings, all you can eat. There is no menu, and you are served everyday: dumplings, fried chicken, greens, beans of some sort, biscuits and corn muffins and mashed potatoes. The dumplings are excellent, the biscuits are flat and tasteless, the mashed potatoes are eh, and there is better chicken at a hometown place 30... More
