We went here with 2 other couples on a Friday night, with reservations. Quite a small place, but it's very charming. We were informed that it takes some time for the food to be prepared, but that it's all cooked to order. I actually discovered that to not be true, as the eggrolls that came with our meals was not... We visited here on a snowy Saturday and enjoyed steaming bowls of the most authentic ramen we've found! The chef is wonderfully kind, fun, and talented. He indulged us in wanting to practice our Japanese and complimented us our abilities. We got to know a little about him and the restaurant. The food was the best! Tasty, warm, and filling.... More

excellent sushi. very friendly chef/wife. Sometimes a little slow, but worth it if you aren't in a hurry. Dining room is small, so it fills up fast - come early on weekends.

Hanamaru is now my go to Japanese restaurant since Keiichi (Kay) and Yoko Kato closed Temari. Not quite as good as Temari, but nonetheless very good. I'm glad to have an authentic Japanese restaurant in town that satisfies my yearning for authentic Japanese food that I developed during the 4 years I lived in Japan.

Hanamaru has great food. The owner and his wife take great strides in making the food authentic, delicious, and appealing to the eye. Truly a great dining experience at a reasonable price.

We've tried numerous sushi places in the greater Salt Lake area, and this is one of the best for food quality. The salmon and tuna nigiri were very fresh and sliced at least 50% thicker than other restaurants. Our son is a salmon snob having lived several years in Alaska, but he was delighted with the freshness. Roll menu is... More

There are two Japanese restaurants in Northern Utah that I can recommend: this one (Hanamaru) and Tona, and both are located in Ogden. Roy and Miyako, the owner-chefs, are professionally trained chefs and create the authentic, delicious flavors of their native Japan. After living many years in Japan, I have high expectations for Japanese food, and most other places don't... More

My husband and I have both lived in Japan and have been looking for a really good Japanese restaurant without having to drive to Salt Lake City. We chanced upon an ad for Hanamaru last weekend. Saturday is their Ramen/Udon day. Think excellent ramen without the added salt and actually made by a person who knows their art to perfection.... More

The Hanamaru is an old house turned into a beautiful restaurant. You have all your traditional sushi fare along with delicious noodle dishes and the best green tea around. The seating is very limited, maybe 16 people max, so make a reservation or show up right when it opens. We typically order a Vegas Roll, and a few others in... More

Very friendly, traditional Japanese restaurant run by 3 people. The food was excellent and prepared in the open kitchen. I really reminded me of ramen shops in Japan. They do offer ramen for Saturday lunch until it runs out. The sushi also looked fresh and the tempura is made-to-order. The parking area is tiny but so is the inside seating... More
