The place is really cozy and cute, looking like the old times. Gezillig as Dutch people would say. I order a kip sate with cucumber salad and my boyfriend, the stew. Both were pretty good. Fries are unlimited with their special sauce and the house red wine is pretty good.

Okay place to eat and prices are reasonable. Spare ribs are the specialty, but I find them to be too fatty and greasy. Not a bad place, but nothing to write home about.

The price/quality is not in balance at the 'gelaarsde kat'. It is too expensive for what you get. For the amount you spend, you can easily go to a restaurant with better service and better quality of food. You have to like the athmosphere as it is very outspoken.

This restaurant is always busy (at least it was all the times I've been there!), so make sure you book your table in time. The restaurant has a very cosy look & feeland an informal service. The menu hasn't changed much over the years, with the famous breadroll & dip sauce, unlimited spare-ribs and various other dishes (with funny names,... More

Having not been here for more than 13 years we decided to book a table. Their famous "broodje dip" was just as good as always, but the "vispotje" lacked flavour and the traditional ribs had to much thyme, the second ribs were the sweet ones, and we're flavourless compared to the traditional ones. Still very dark and "gezellig" inside and... More

"De Gelaarsde Kat" (Puss-in-Boots) is a consistant factor in the city of Alphen aan den Rijn. The cosy dark-brown interior, (hard not to) sing-along background music and friendly staff gives you a warm welcome. The choice of menu has been the same for many years but nobody's complaining. Food quality and portions are good. Price level is just ok for... More

Service is terrible, kitchen is out dated. I will not go there anymore. Recipe of the spareribs is not tastefull and when we complained the did not want to accept this or do anything about it.

This is a big restaurant which has quite a few different seating areas over two levels. The décor could be called dark, with dark wood furniture and rafters/beams and lots of decorations crammed in. But to me it felt rather cosy and gave off a nice atmosphere. We ate dinner there and it was already dark when we arrived, so... More

Nothing wrong with the food here but the prices are way to high!some prices increased with 40% in 5 years. The other minor point is that there are to much tables for th espace in the restaurant so you got little space. They have seats facing the river Rhine and that is very nice! If you go there take the... More

Reasonable food, reasonable staff and reasonable price. Always packed full, that's gotta mean something, right?
