Party of six; three generations. It all worked. Great location. The ambience is comfortable with a huge bar. The waiter was superior. Focus on local meats and produce. Strong on interesting cocktails. The menu was varied and the food was good.

Failed restaurant! What was once a lovely, busy, vibrant restaurant is now half empty on a Saturday night. The food was expensive and inedible. Brussels sprouts so sour they destroyed my palate. I traded them for a marrow bone full of very greasy terrible tasting...inedible fat. My pork chop was tough, chewy, and tasteless. No management visible. Clearly there was nobody who cared or supervised the kitchen. They served greasy, poor diner food for $150 for a couple. Get a chef. Can’t rate it low enough. Will never go back.More
My wife and I felt so “lucky” to get a bar seat at Lucky’s Restaurant for Happy Hour, despite the town being really busy with graduation ceremonies today. The two guys on the bar were awesome and the drinks were reasonably priced with an amazing...list of cocktails. The soft shell crab baguette was delicious and the bar nuts were excellent. The ambience was really nice and it surpassed all our expectations for our one night stopover in Roanoke. We can’t recommend this place highly enough.More
We had a lovely evening! The chef recommendations were delicious. We had the steak and fish dish. Cocktails are unique, refreshing and wonderful. I do miss the small plates. They were a joy to share with others.
Lucky has been my go-to spot in Roanoke for some time. Best craft cocktail program around. Good menu with 5 - 6 varied entrees and a nice selection of starters. We had a party of 4 and started with cocktails and wine. A few brown...spirit drinks and one white. Cocktails are spot on and wine list has enough options for all priced fairly. We had a dozen oysters 🦪, Brussel sprouts & Caesar salad to start. The oysters were fresh & cold with a selection of 3 wonderful sauces.Brussels were good and Caesar was superb. The white anchovies on the side were incredible. Entrees were 2 steaks, scallops & fried chicken. All perfectly cooked but maybe a bit too heavy of a sear on the scallops but still good. If I lived in Roanoke I would eat here 2 - 3 times a month. Always a treat and service is top-notch.More
Lucky was a wonderful experience. Our first time my husband and I shared the fried yucca and had delicious, properly made Manhattan's. The cocktail was so good we went back the next evening and had the cheese plate with another Manhattan. All the staff was...very friendly. The bartenders know what they are doing, If we lived close this would be our go to spot.More
Luck offers mostly small plates which gives you the opportunity to try several new and interesting dishes at once. We had Caprese, eggplant and steak all of which were imaginatively prepared with many layers of flavour. The pudding was great and the wine list was...good value.More
Interesting, well-prepared and flavorful dishes. Homemade tonic in the gin and tonic is superior. Knowledgeable servers. Great wait staff. Loved the dining experience.
Nice to have a place to dine that is different from your typical dining experience. Small plates provided so many flavors to try. You can tell each dish was crafted with thought to flavor. The bar coctails are all different and the ones we tried...were awesome. We did the menu and was full! The wait staff and chef were knowledgeable about the plates. Intimate dining experience!More
Apparently this restaurant has changed and longer is offering normal entrees and had we known, we would have never made reservations here. The food choices are now half the size of a normal appetizer and even if you order three plates, you will leave hungry....For instance, I ordered the octopus which came with potatoes, the octopus was three tiny slices in a gelatin, which tasted like jello while the potatoes were more like potato salad. I also had the short ribs which was a very small portion, and were chewy. Some of the “African salad” was not edible. I would describe the food as “micro tasteless portions heavily disguised with trendy names.” The other couple we ate with found their food equally unappealing with not enough to qualify as anything more than barroom hors d’oeuvres. There are only 3 choices for wine by the glass and you have to choose either a 3 oz glass or a 5 oz glass. Who orders a 3 oz glass of wine! If you want to go out for a nice meal one evening, I can’t imagine anyone would be satisfied eating here.More
We have always enjoyed this place, but the new and improved small plate menu is terrible. Skimpy portions, overpriced and totally pretentious and overpriced. We won’t be back unless things change dramatically.
Lucky has totally changed their business model but has not bothered to reflect those changes to the general public online, including here on Tripadvisor. Here's a more current, relevant review. Great place to eat if you like food that is fairly tasty, stupidly pretentious and...equally overpriced. A couple of examples. A plate of scallops for two that only has one scallop. A plate of alleged octopus that might have two grams of actual octopus suspended in gelatin. All that, paired with a wait staff that spent more time talking to each other than paying attention to customers. This is the new version of Lucky, a formerly great restaurant. Now it's just a place for people with more money than sense.More
We had a fine bottle of wine and shared 7 of their small plates to round out a meal. No dessert. A great experience although normally I don't prefer to eat so many small dishes. I am unsure exactly what their concept is, Lucky had...been re-opened less than 2 weeks when we visited. They have such an excellent bar, I wondered if the average customer has drinks and a few plates and moves on? We ate everything with relish, all well thought out and well executed. Food settled well in the stomach, no problem. They are setting a high bar at Lucky with some inspired work on display. I highly recommend.More
Our table wasn’t quite ready and they offered us some drinks at the bar. Service was spot on. and the ambiance was very chill. My wife is gluten free and had no issues with anything on the menu.
We wanted to try something different and a friend recommended this place for us. First, our drinks were absolutely phenomenal. I didn’t take pictures because I forgot - they were so good!! I ordered scallops which were the best I’ve had in this area, ever....Hubs ordered a whitefish in a tomato sauce, which was to die for. I’m not doing the food justice here at all! Our sides were roasted snap peas - so good we made an order to go - and a side salad that had a delicious blueberry dressing! Just phenomenal!!More
