The food at Fat Canary takes center stage. Great menu and very good service. We opted for appetizers, entrees and dessert. The food was great. Be sure to make a reservation.

At the end of a busy day touring Colonial Williamsburg, this is the type of place where you can sit, relax and have a wonderful meal. It is conveniently located just at the edge of Colonial Williamsburg. On this occasion, I ordered one of the...evenings specials, a rock fish dinner. It was wonderful. Good wine list and attentive wait staff. I recommend making reservations. During this time, they are observing all the appropriate social distancing, use of masks, etc. Give it a try!More

The Fat Canary continues to serve excellent food during the COVID pandemic. The rabbit is a MUST but be careful; you may find it more filling than the average appetizer. I had the grouper as an entree and it could not have been better. Both...the food and service were excellent.More

Eaten here multiple times and the appetizers and entrees have always been excellent. The desserts tend to be out least favorite - I think they try too hard to be creative - like the cheesecake which is essentially deconstructed. But as that is just the...icing on the meal, it doesn’t detract from my rating.More

We were really excited to try this restaurant due to the great reviews. We made reservations and had to wait 30 minutes to be seated even though we saw plenty of open tables. The menu had a large variety of selections, we opted for the...lamb shank and scallops. The food wasn't spectacular and it was overpriced. My husband said the lamb tasted like cheap roast beef. We won't be returning and we were shoved in the corner facing a large beam, not great way to spend a birthday Celebration.More

We had dinner at the Fat Canary during Thanksgiving weekend. It is one of our favorites in Williamsburg and did not disappoint. We had reservations and were seated immediately. The dining room has been properly spaced for COVID safety. Everything we had was excellent. The...country ham/mozzarella appetizer was outstanding as were the fish specials (Halibut). The chocolate triangle was a great finish. Our server was excellent. He knew the menu and made sure we were taken care of. We will definitely return!More

Anniversaries call for a nice dinner and we thought of Fat Canary. However, health concerns motivated us to do take out. We chose their duck egg topped salad, Crispy oysters, pan seared scallops, and lamb shank finished off with a cheese plate for a dessert....We even decided to get a bottle of our favorite wine which was priced at the retail price of their wine and cheese shop which is connected to Fat Canary. I suppose if we consumed it in the restaurant we would have paid full restaurant price. The staff was very helpful on the phone as we asked questions abut the entrees. Another take out was picked up while they were packaging our dinner so they are doing well even though their in restaurant dining capacity has been cut by 50%. Our favorite bar seats are no longer offered but outside dining is; weather permitting. Since we live in Williamsburg we have a lot of choice of good restaurants but Fat Canary is still our favorite.More

My husband and I ate at The Fat Canary last night. We had eaten there a few years ago and loved it, so we decided to try again. It was not a disappointment at all - everything was great... even during the Corona virus pandemic....Our waitress, Kate, was knowledgeable, spunky, and fun. My husband had the cream of fennel soup and the halibut specials. He loved both. I had the house made mozzarella, pancetta and tomato appetizer and the lamb shank entree. Both were delicious. The dessert was also yummy: homemade toasted marshmallow and chocolate ice cream with crushed Graham cracker. The Fat Canary is a MUST visit restaurant if you’re headed to Williamsburg.More

My travel companion and I had the BEST dinner here after a long day exploring Colonial Williamsburg. We started with wonderful cocktails: a peach mint spritzer for me and a blood orange margarita for my friend. We sat at the high-top tables in the bar,...and both bartenders were very friendly and attentive to us while keeping up with drink orders. For dinner I had the braised lamb shank with farro and celery root. It was one of the most savory and delicious plates I’ve ever eaten. The lamb was so tender it was literally falling off the bone. My friend had the halibut special which included shrimp, chorizo and potatoes in a saffron broth. She raved about how good it was. For dessert we had profiteroles with espresso ice cream filling and the daily special of s’mores ice cream with homemade graham cookie and toasted marshmallows. Scrumptious! I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the whole experience. It was fabulous. Highly recommend this place. Make a reservation as they are very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings.More

I'll begin with our server, who knew the menu and made excellent suggestions. He was warm, numerous and simply excellent. I'm sorry I forgot his name because I'd recommend him to everyone. My wife and I had the same appetizers and entrees, salad followed by...a grouper special. The salad greens were slightly bitter which were set off nicely by almonds, goat cheese and the dressing. The pan roasted grouper, from our home state (NC), was over mashed potatoes infused with hatch chilies. It was surrounded by corn and shiitake mushrooms and shrimp (also from NC). The combination was exquisite. My wife wouldn't let me lick my plate. I saved some room for a combination of 3 sorbets, key lime, pineapple & mango. I really loved the sharp tartness of the key lime. Overall an excellent evening and a great way to end our stay in Williamsburg.More

Fat Canary is an exceptional restaurant - and will offer you a variety of options. Anything you select will meet the highest standards. It is not a steakhouse - I’m in Bangalore and jet lagged. My last response was confusing. More

That's odd, I have been to Fat Canary 3 times and each time our special occasion was recognized.
