It took us four years to get in, but thankfully there was a hint of a snowfall, Virginia panicked, and spaces opened up. This is a gourmet meal, cooking class, folk hour, wine instruction, and product pitch simultaneous. We can't wait to go back.
My hubby and I enjoyed dinner at Chef's Kitchen for Valentine's Day on February 14, 2020. Chef's Kitchen is like a cooking class and you get to eat the delicious results! The evening starts with check-in in the shop area (great merchandise and wine on...sale). At 6:30 the door to the "kitchen area" opens and you have champagne and small bites for half an hour while you find your seat (all seats are assigned in advance). Sometimes there is a piano player to entertain during this time period. At 7:00 Chef John and Chef Nick begin the "show" and regale you with wonderful food, stories and cooking instructions for the next 2.5-3 hours. Cherie does a great job of serving the wine, food and running the shop. Everyone is so friendly. The food is outstanding and atmosphere is great. Questions are encouraged. Unlike some restaurants on Valentine's evening...there is no rush here...just the normal meal. An outstanding experience! One caution: you must make reservations well in advance (think several months out). They do have a wait-list if your desired date is taken. Go to Chef's Kitchen. You won't be disappointed.More
Prior to entering the demonstration area, you wait is a small, crowded area, shop. It is dusty and has mostly wine. Recommend getting rid of space taking center island and providing more waiting area. Once the kitchen/demonstration area opens, you go to your assigned seat...on one of three tiers. It is entertaining and an experience to watch your meal prepared, but other than being given recipes, you are really not shown how to cook it.the courses run from great to OK. Service is good. May recommend for a one shot experience, but not a second trip. Pricy.More
We had the awesome opportunity to have dinner here. It wasn't just a meal. It was a night out. Although it is a 5 course meal, it is spaced over 2 - 3 hours while you watch the chef cook. It is not too much...food as you might think. Rather, it was just right. The food was amazing. While you are there, buy the carrot peeler. It's only $7.50, but works great. You'll get tips on what salt to use, what baking soda, etc. You have to book 6 months in advance, but we got in with our time share. They will work out diet restrictions.
My husband felt it was the best night out he's had.More
I have watched Vivian's program on PBS for awhile. I love it, and her restaurant did not disappoint. There is a great park nearby. The kids enjoyed the playground until it was time for our dinner. The park was donated by the restaurant and other...locals.More
Chef’s Kitchen is just another Williamsburg tourist trap gimmick . A complete waste of time & money. Crowded with tourists, & way too boring. It’s not that bad... but it’s just over-rated, & over-priced. Go eat somewhere else.
There’s a reason this restaurant is the highest rated in Williamsburg. The incredible food was only surpassed by the entertainment provided by the chefs. Chef John, Chef Nick, and Deirdre provided an unforgettable dining experience. Glad we were able to get in from the waitlist....Next time we’ll plan ahead to make sure we get in. Space is limited!More
Most reservations need to be made about 6 months in advance. You can call, and if there is a cancellation, they will seat you. Remember, the restaurant only holds 30 people and there is only one seating per day.
