You know a place is good when all of the locals are lined up here at lunch time. Secret, go early as if you go after 12:30-1:00 PM, will likely be out of many things.

This is a great little place- It serves excellent local style food relatively (for Kauai) cheaply. For most humans over the age of 40 a rice bowl with one hot dish is sufficient. Kalua Pork, Katsu chicken and Poke are excellent. They sell out of lots of stuff early, so don't expect to roll in at 1 and have all... More

Best Hawaiian food on the island! Great service too! Searched the island for two days looking for some pig and potato mac and finally this place did not disappoint.

We were referred to this place by a local and were happy we went. At least my husband was. I don't really care for seafood, but my husband loves it. He said the poke here is "really, really good" and insisted that we go back there several times during our stay on the island so he could get more. They... More

I think Pono Market has the best take out plate lunch on the island. They also have delicious sushi and other items for take out. The poke is excellent! You can get coffee and ice cream there as well. For vegetarians there is veggie sushi, ocean salad and kalolo. I always recommend this place to my friends and family. There... More

Stopped here after reading about in guide book and glad we did! The Kalua Pig would win any BBQ competition, hands down, and the various Poke we tried were light and fresh tasting. My girls were all 'too full' to finish their pork, but they wouldn't let me finish their leftovers. :( Sad times indeed :(

I had a poke bowl with spicy ahi poke. The prices for all of their plate lunches seemed very reasonable, especially for Kauai. The poke bowl was under $7. The fish was fresh and the poke had just the right amount of spice for me. If I lived on Kauai, I'd eat there a few times every month.

This joint can't get much more local. Sushi, poke, and other native fare. Also it's a REAL coffee shop with espresso, latte, and cappuccino. Great place to start your day.

This was our first stop for food once reaching hawaii. It was a bit overwhelming as it is quite a busy little stop but the staff were friendly and patient and we eventually decided on kalua pork and laulau cabbage. Both were pretty good though I'm not sure how much of a fan I am of taro but the pork... More

This was an anniversary trip, so had to visit the place we got our marriage license all those years ago. Smaller shop now, but same great food and friendly folks.
