We visit Fred’s every time we came to Maui but this time we were really disappointed. Service was okay, food was okay and drinks were terrible and insanely overpriced. I want to love this place but I just can’t justify the price.
What makes Fred’s a 5 for me is the whole package. Cute, clean, colorful restaurant, great energy & vibe, and the views of the ocean and sunset from the deck seating. That and very solid food! The chips, queso and guac are great with some...drinks to start. The shrimp and steak fajitas were cooked well and had great flavor. Friendly staff. Go early (like 4:45) to get a great outdoor seat and stay for the sunset!More
We love Fred’s and eat there whenever we’re in Kihei for both breakfast and dinner. The outdoor seating is unbeatable. Food is delicious and plentiful. Cost for food and drink is surprisingly reasonable.
This restaurant is across the street from our condo so it was convenient for a quick takeout meal. The food was ready on time and tasted great. The steak salad was very tasty. Really like the chicken and steak tacos. The fish taco wasn't to...my liking, but that is just my taste.More
The service, food and ambience was amazing. We were seated right away. Greeted warmly by our waitress. Given warm tortilla chips with delicious salsa. Our order was delivered timely. I had the Kahula pork tacos with rice and beans. It was very tasty. The portions are...sizeable. What a great dinner. I did not have room for dessert. I will most definitely be back.More
Good / fast service. Friendly people. Excellent location. Parking can be a bit squirrelly. Food was just OK - pretty typical Mexican and priced consistent with what you’d expect in Maui (high). Would go again but mostly due to ambiance and location.
For years, I've had corporate guests, friends and family and ONLY order the Carne Asada Taco plate with black beans and rice. It something that causes you to "drool" just thinking about it. The best in the world. I just tried to order and was...informed me that they no longer have Carne Asada but Kalua Pork. Yeeeeeeeeech!!!!!!!
Now, I'll have to see what Fernando's or some other restaurants have on their menu and, if so, try and see if it's as good. What a shame. BUMMER!!!More

I'm sorry I don't know, but I'm sure they would be able and willing to tell you. Since lard is avoided in several religious faiths and Hawaii is very multi cultural, I don't think they'd find the question a problem... More
I'm sorry I don't know, but I'm sure they would be able and willing to tell you. Since lard is avoided in several religious faiths and Hawaii is very multi cultural, I don't think they'd find the question a problem. Personally, I found the refried beans very tasty and different, but they may well contain lard.

I wouldn’t know about that. Worst lard? Have only had their black beans and they are terrific! Worst lard? There’s a “best” lard? Lard is lard and if you know great Mexican fare, yes, lard is used in refried beans... More

Moose McGillucuddy’s is upstairs and Fred’s is downstairs. I’m not sure if they have two separate happy hours. I’m sure it would indicate on their website. The beach across the street is Kamaole II.
Hope this helps.
