After contacting the restaurant over a week ago, there hasn’t been a response to my emails regarding the poor service & treatment of my friends and I. This is what I wrote & experienced: As a resident and a frequent diner at 5 palms restaurant,...we must admit that today’s service (Sat, 11/20) was the first (at that location) and by far the worse (from other restaurants) we’ve ever experienced at a restaurant. We arrived at 1pm. Within the first few minutes, we were greeted by our server and asked for a drink order but we weren’t ready. She was attentive at taking our drink order but soon after that, we didn’t see our drinks nor our server for “over” 20 minutes. When she finally delivered the drinks, we were ready for our food order but instead she dropped off the drinks & immediately left without taking our food order. Disappointingly, we saw her take orders from another group of people that arrived after us. After another 20 minutes or so, we waved at the most available server and requested to order food. We finally received our food about 2pm by a food runner (still no sight of our server). We asked the food runner that we were waiting on our server or someone to take another drink order and refill waters. Another server took our drink orders. Finally, our original server dropped off our drinks. At this point, it’s far from 2pm - probably close to 2:30pm. Suddenly, we noticed employees staring at us and laughing. As I walked by them (coming back from the restroom), I overheard something about an event but nothing clear. I went on my business. Suddenly, one of the hostesses popped her head out from the top of the stairs, looked at me & yelled “Aloha!” laughed aloud & vanished. Then a busser arrived and quickly cleared our table and even grabbed my friend’s small carafe that was still filled with wine. Our server gave us the check but we didn’t look at it until she came back and said she has to close it. My friend said “oh let me look at it right quick.” The server replied with “ok, I’ll just take your card and you can look at it.” She sprinted off with her card. In the end, a manager (assuming it was) encountered us and said we needed to go because of an event at 3pm. We were rushed out. Ultimately, we couldn’t comprehend how or why the above happened- just so surprised by the terrible experience. Everything mentioned above is more than unacceptable. Most incidents could have been prevented or even gotten better or improved throughout the dining experience but it just kept getting worse and worse. We felt neglected, self-conscious, embarrassed, disrespected and incredibly upset.More

Good food. Yummy chocolate cake. Excellent service from our waiter Oscar, and the rest of the staff. The dinner special is a good value. We would eat here again

I usually have a good experience with this restaurant but today was a disappointment. First, the lady from the podium seating people for happy hour left as soon as we arrived and stayed at the other restaurant podium where there was no line. Second, when...my son arrived, we asked for the extra seat that was at the bar and the other party was reserving a seat but their other guest hasn't arrived yet. So I asked the Asian bar tender that they shouldn't do that and she said that she's the owner's wife and can do "whatever she wants". Noooo, that's not how proper, ethical customer service is done, When paying customers show up, you give them the seat, no matter if you're the owner! So my husband left and gave the seat to my son. Then two seats opened up and asked if I want to reserve a seat for the gentleman...oh you mean my HUSBAND that left a few minutes ago and went back to our condo?! Please...too late for your save!More

Came here for breakfast - booked my reservation on Open Table months ago. Was a little shocked at the prices when we came in, but again this is Maui and this is what you can expect I thought. Pancakes are $20 an order, eggs benedict...was $20-25 an order. Do not order the baked pancake- this might have been the worst breakfast item I have ever had in my life. I always get a side of portuguese sausage while I am in Hawaii and the taste of theirs was like cut up Oscar Meyer hot dogs. I would not recommend this restaurant at all. You honestly would be better going to get breakfast at Starbucks or McDonalds. At least you know what you’re getting and your wallet doesn’t hurt.More

We just had a couple’s dinner at 5 Palms while in Kihei. We asked for outside seating mainly because the lighting on the inside areas was a bit harsh. The outside was great after we got our table. Ordered the 3 course special set meal...with salad, steamed fish in ginger sauce over rice, and flourless chocolate cake. The salad was big, but I’m just not a fan of sour dressing - it needed a bit of sweetness to offset the vinegar, or even a creamy option. But, after I tasted it, the waitress was nowhere to be seen, so I ate it as is. The entree was light and tasty, but our portions were quite different. The same went for the dessert - delicious but different sizes. Also, I have a peeve about anybody clearing plates while anybody is still eating, which is what happened. Overall, it was a pleasant environment and the dinner was good. But, with just a few refinements on the service and a bit more care on what is sent from the kitchen, the experience could be notched up a bit.More

To be completely honest we have been here several times and use to actually love it. Because of extensive wait times two days ago we were told to reserve online, which we did. Once we were seated we were told we were not able to...order from the menu we were previously told we could order from, but because of past visits we sucked it up and ordered a VERY OVER PRICED dinner. Not once were we asked how things were. The food was actually horrible and we were not only over charged for things not ordered, but treated like junk by Jenn. Don’t get me wrong I do not mind paying top dollar for an amazing meal, but this was extremely lacklustre with extremely crap service. As a family that frequents the island and has spent a lot of time and money at this restaurant, I can actually say because of this experience in particular we will not be returning and I was so angry I was driven to write this review.More

We have eaten at 5 Palms a lot and while not exceptional, it was always acceptable until last night Nov. 7, 2021. We booked a rez on Open Table in advance and requested an outdoor table which we rudely told no dice, come early and...take your chances. We did and still no al fresco but not too bad. Our tab was $160+ and not worth it. Here is my husband Richard's take: They overbook which means long waits for food and slow service. Our server said the kitchen was running behind because of "so many tickets." And while two poke dishes were good, the mahimahi with Thai green chili sauce was dry with a few slices of tired and tasteless zucchini and eggplant and a lump of sticky rice seemed like it had spent way too much time waiting under a heat lamp. The cheerful server offered to replace it but I declined due to the probable lengthy wait. Definitely not worth the $48 not deducted from the bill. Five Palms is a lame duck at Mana Kai, with a Peter Merriman restaurant slated to replace it next year. So don't expect much in the way of a caring experience.More

An absolutely beautiful location and amazing brunch. Every bite was so flavorful. The salmon was mouth watering. This was a highly recommended place by the locals we spoke to when deciding where to eat brunch to celebrate our morning beach wedding. Absolutely excellent advice!

We had two meals at 5 Palms-a late lunch and breakfast the following day. Both meals were delicious with serving portions that required takeout containers. The view right on the beach is fantastic. Will make sure we get back again to try the dinner menu.

Reading the reviews for this place made a bit nervous. But we proceeded to come here anyways. The location is in a beautiful spot. Sunset views were amazing! Many people enjoyed the sunset on towels or blankets out front of the resort. Nice thing was,...that it was a private beach. We walked up to the hostess to be seated, vax cards are needed FYI or you can't be served here. Hostess said it would be a few before a table opened up, which was fine considering we wanted to watch the sunset outside anyways. Came back, and she said she was still waiting a for a table, which was fine. We were seated for a few minutes before anyone cam over to us, but server was super friendly when she came. Drinks were good! If you do not like seafood, this is not the place for you. Most entrees are seafood based. I ordered the chicken and my husband ordered the pasta with veggies. I was a tad disappointed in my entrée as the description did not mention that the chicken would be a half rotisserie style chicken. But it was juicy and flavorful. we got the mud pie for desert and it was super tasty as well. A few cons were that where we got seated, there was no air flow so it felt hot and a bit stuffy. There was no breeze at all even though the large windows were open. I do also feel the price points were a bit high as well. My entrée was 30 and husbands about the same. I did feel the drinks prices were reasonable.More
