I used to smile when arriving and seeing Mrs. Tanaka creating her local stanbys - chop steak, ahi nitsuke, donburi, fresh fried ahi, dry noodle, etc., with her classic Japanese style/smile. Family members have taken over and our visit upon our holiday return from Henderson, NV brought back ono memories of my youth, fatboy days. Service is quick and attentive,... More

This place is a must eat restaurant whenever I'm on Maui. My family already knows that when I come to Maui, one night is reserved for eating at Archie's. Some of our favorites are the Oyakodonburi and breaded Teriyaki Steak. The service is great and prices are reasonable. The furniture and decor could use a little freshening up, but for... More

This time I had their pork cutlet. Nice portion with crispy tender pork with two scoops rice and green salad. The gravy was tasty with a mushroom flavor ($12.50) My husband had the loco moco with eggs over easy. Hood portion with lots of gravy all over, huge amount if rice, homemade patties with good Mac salad ($10) My kids... More

I tried to keep an open mind in trying old nostalgic restaurants in the past however this definitely is not a place that I can recommend. All the food was overly salty, including the saimin, barbeque pork, and breaded mahi mahi. I came for the miso butterfish, but I was told that they were out of it. The pork I... More

Not like before. Terrible service, tasteless food. Fly in miso soup on 6/14/2012. I will not dine there ever again!

We gathered there with lots of other people. The ambience is very local and just great. The staff were working really hard and could still smile. The Tonkatsu was good ... ono. The people who had the Chicken Tofu made comments about "plenny onions". I looked ... wow, looked like a whole onion was cooked in there. The person who... More

In 1973, when I cut out of high school to drink coffee with the "art students," I sat in booth 2, against the east wall. Nothing has changed, except for the wait staff: they will always be kids. The breaded teriyaki steak that George (Sheik's Restaurant) invented and took to Honolulu remains a faithful lunch and dinner item here. But... More

We were in Archie's tonight. Our timing was good and a little before 7pm there was no problem of parking. The inside is a little run down and the athmosphere is hard to describe, but the service was extremly friendly. Every question was answered and the menu explained. I hac the butterfish and spouse the teriaki steak. Both tasted great... More
