Don't even bother buying the shave ice at other places. Most of them use syrups you can buy at Foodland. Matsumoto's is the one! Their unique syrup flavors are delicious and their prices are actually lower than most shave ice stands. You will have to wait in line during peak times but the line moves quickly. The Lilikoi was my... More

I had a special shave ice where I could choose one flavor (I chose papaya and it was so good), it also had one scoop of a delicious vanilla ice cream, azuki beans, mochi balls and condensed milk on top. Really good! Must try!

Very popular tourist trail stopover. There was a massive queue, although it moved very fast: this is a slick operation. There are lots of interesting sounding flavours, but they all tasted pretty much the same once the ice started to melt (ie: like very sweet flavoured syrupy ice mush).

I remember when this was a small place and now it has been so commercialized with the expanded 1/2 of the shop selling shirts, etc. We ordered a large shaved ice with ice cream and not enough syrup was added. You could see white parts in the ice. The price was reasonable but the quality wasn't the same like it... More

Not worth the hype IMO. There are dishes made with skill and taste and shaved ice is not one of them.

So we were in Haleiwa, home of Matsumoto Shave Ice. When in Rome...There is a line, but it moves fairly quickly; it was out the door, stretching almost across the courtyard, but we were in and out in 15 minutes. I found the shave ice to be light and fluffy, a welcome change from snow cones on the east coast.... More

Quite honestly, I'm not sure any shave ice is better or worse than the other, but I really liked this place. 3 flavors, large, with beans and ice-cream for only 5 bucks. The beans are delicious too! We had orange, lemonade, and grape. Quite yummy. My only nit - it quickly melts and you're left with a soggy mess. Eat... More

This little hole in the wall place in Haleiwa is easy to find - just look for people lined-up twenty-deep out the door and you've found Matsumotos Shave Ice. Absolutely EVERYONE I knew that has visited or lived in Hawaii recommended this place to me. There are dozens of shave ice places on Oahu and even two or three within... More

This has been our favorite place to go for shaved ice for more than a decade. They've remodeled the store over the last few years ( more modern, cleaner with tons of space ). We highly recommend the Rainbow flavor with ice cream. Got it with condensed milk this trip and it was ok. During the 5 days we were... More
