We were in the area and looking for a place for lunch that was quick and inexpensive. This place was it. The lunch specials for $11.99 were very good and we would return. The service was great, too.

A cheap Thai place, with the usual fare. Apparently the locals use it for takeouts - saw a few come in to pick up orders. The decor is about as basic as it gets. I had a duck curry and liked it. Beer choice included a surprisingly nice porter. All in all, it was a pretty good dinner, and for... More

Arriving in San Francisco after several weeks of traveling the us we wanted to dine in our apartment. We ordered online which was very easy and gave the option of credit, pay pal and cash. Delivery is "free" but don't forget the tip. The food was good. Very fresh and hot (Luke warm food has been a regular occurrence throughout... More

I had higher expectations. The food is average but if you don't feel like eating Italian food you can go and grab a bite.

We happened upon this cafe as we were walking back from the pier and it was getting dark. Although it is small it was busy with continuous takeaways so we knew it must be ok. We are thai and the service and food were on par with thailand. The waitress was helpful and friendly. We ordered the tom yum and... More

Tuk Tuk Thai is located in a good spot if you're headed to Club Fugazi for Beach Blanket Babylon. The staff were pleasant, the service good, and the cuisine was good, as well.

Very casual eating. Good Pad Thai and Panang Curry. The service was very good. The serving of checking satay appetizers was a nice size.

Three friends and I were walking in SF and decided to stop in here for lunch today at Washington Square after walking up the Filbert Street Steps. What a great find. Had the lunch special of a choice of appetizers and a choice of entrée. Perfect meal. Will definitely go back again.

Tasty Thai food for a very good price. I had pork with mushrooms and garlic sauce. If I had it to do over i would get vegetarian. Location is also good, right next to Little Italy and Rogue beer bar

I recently visited San Francisco for a few days and ate at Tuk Tuk Thai café pretty much every night! The food was absolutely delicious and the service staff were always so welcoming and attentive. The food was also always served very quickly after ordering it. Everything is very reasonably priced, which is great if you are travelling on a... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
